Dev's reply on the topic was "We planned 1 very light scene that could barely be considered ntr..." so the wording implies it is not in any version of the game

The tag was apparently added cause there was gonna be exactly 1 scene which vaguely fit the bill of ntr, so the dev added the tag to drive up interest on Itch (lot of people like that garbage for whatever reason). Since interest has been shown in the game and lots of people expressed hate for NTR, the dev has decided to cut the scene in question (he himself actually dislikes NTR, apparently.) In my experience on here, devs are pretty good with being upfront about the sort of thing you'll find in their games, so I have no reason to doubt his sincerity on this, personally.
Well, if you're new to these then please, let me give you a few pointers as someone who's been into these for like 5-6 years now;
1. Owing to what we discussed above, much of the really good stuff is unavailable on Steam, so Itch is really the premier place to look for good AVN's (there are still a few fine AVN's on Steam, of course)
2. Most AVN's are shit: they are amateurishly produced and written, and use boring badly made stock animations. If you are put off seriously throughout the first 30 minutes of one of these, then it's probably not worth your time. There are exceptions where the dev really hit their stride only later on, but most of the time you can skedaddle immediately if you're bored.
3. Most AVN's that are good are in development hell for years and will be finished by the time you have grandkids (lmao), so get used to waiting for your favorite when it comes to it finally recieving updates.
4. Play Eternum, Out of Touch, Superhuman, and Sicae if you haven't already, these are the cream of the crop among the AVN's I've played over the years.
Hope this was helpful!
There is no "True ending" where everything works out hunkie-doorie, the point of the game is that the path to building a harem realistically turns into a nightmare scenario. Story Anon made this game as a kind of critique of the way harem AVN's are usually written to destroy the agency of the women involved in the harem, and yet treat it as some kind of wholesome love story despite how sociopathic it really is when you stop and think about it (recall reading this on the Discord Server, don't remember if it was him saying it or someone relaying it on his behalf, or if it was someone speculating). The "true ending", as in the one where nothing bad happens, is probably the one where you just don't romance anyone you don't have to at all and go with whatever results. The real True Ending, which best fits the game thematically, is probably the one where you go all in on knocking up and lying to everyone, which produces the most awful result possible. If you want a "harem" story where things ultimately go in a positive direction despite much trouble, then go read Out of Touch.
Hope this helps clear up some things for you!
No, the Dev released an update for his other game, titled Big Long Complex, on December 25th, which ended up being his second overhaul of that entire game back to 3D environments (it was formerly a visual novel, before which it was a game in 3D much like Small Complex). So that's part of the reason this one's not been updated in forever.
Soon(TM). Hopefully before the year is over, but it might be early next year too; either way probably no more than 2 months at most. (No confirmed release date or anything, so this is guesswork on my part based on previews shared and statements from FarmGuy on the Discord server about how close to finished)
The walkthrough explains that some of the storylines will not get any closure and that some scenes will be missed out on if you don't finish them prior to going to the mall. If you're worried about not getting them on time, then don't worry; you will essentially be given a Groundhog's day loop on the day the mall becomes available, letting you take as long as you want to finish up the storylines and see them through to the end. The biggest loss you could have is missing out on skill and power points that are necessary for certain story branches later on.
Had more or less your exact experience myself actually, as I played NLT's previous game, Lust Epidemic, for my first one. And I agree; most AVN's on here are utter garbage on all counts quality-wise, and even the pretty well-written ones are usually ruined for me by how ugly they are to look at.
With all this in mind, I really cannot recommend Eternum enough; not in spite of any theoretical lack of quality in any department you mentioned, but specifically because of how much better it does all of the above mentioned things. It's the sort of thing you get so engrossed in you suddenly notice a sunrise coming through your window, and then stare in disbelief at how in the world a fuckin porn game of all things made you lose track of time with its quality, as well as why in the world anyone talented enough to make something like this would dedicate their skills to porn of all things. But there it is. Existing in spite of that.
So yeah, even if you feel like lack of voice acting might be a deal breaker for you, I would still highly recommend just trying this one. It's worth noting for the sake of honesty that this is a classical example of a mystery game whose more serious and technical writing merits only really start to shine in later chapters, and as such relies on you liking its cast and tone to keep you invested for the first several chapters (neither of which are hard to like, granted)
Cheers, hope you try it and enjoy it!
Closing in on 10 months now, definitely the longest an update's ever taken. Judging by the track record, it's probably a sign that they're making even more outlandish scenarios with lots of high quality animations and such, since the quantity of these has been increasing in tandem with the amount of time each update takes.
Yes to all the sound stuff, but no vocalizations or voice acting or the sort. Would still highly recommend; this is undoubtedly the most well written and well presented adult visual novel out there as far as I'm aware, and as I mentioned it does have sound effects, both environmental and erotic (just not any vocalizations). Seriously, you'd be missing out on one of the best experiences on this whole website if you decided to skip this one, so I really recommend it
I think Siren has said somewhere that he (I think?) plans to let you buy the game on Itch whenever it's completed, which will probably be sometime next year if I had to guess (he's said before that the game should be finished by the end of this year, but that was a while ago, and with some of the update delays in mind I would guess we're gonna see the full game sometime next year instead)
If last update was any indication, then Luna and Penelope are very likely to recieve scenes, since they didn't get any action last go around, and Calypso who is almost definitely a major focus of next update and who also hasn't gotten a scene in a few updates. So the 3 of them are probable, and last I checked we're getting 4 scenes total, which would imply at least one more girl getting a scene.
