Oh damn! Hi Selrev, long time no see! Things are still in development right now, but you're welcome to test the game newest version. It's called HololiveTextGameUI, which you should be able to download and unpack it. It's just a short game and the instructions are not so... great (and not visually appealing either cause it's a text game). Still, I would appreciate if you can test it and give me your opinions!
Thanks for the motivation beams lmao I really need that!
I know this decision is a bit selfish of mine, and in any cases I'm gonna write a new fresh story, so what's the point? This story was going to be rewritten anyways because of how strict the HoloIndie requirements are on sensitive contents. It's fortunately not something unexpected.
I'm happy that you prefer to leave it as a prologue as well. Even if it's no longer "a shonen-esque band of misfits meeting cool vtubers as living breathing medieval fantasy characters", I still wants to write the story in the most relatable ways based on that spirit. At least we're on the same boat of suffering the post-jam struggles lmao.
Hi, the-only-guy-who-been-reading-my-devlog. I'm really really grateful for your feedback. I'm not in the best state of mind right now, but I will try to address some of your concerns:
Q1: what does "starting from left-right" mean?
A: It was just the left over from the previous digital version of the game. I was trying to communicate that you can either count your target from left-to-right or top-to-bottom. But for this version only the top-to-bottom is needed. So... just ignore it.
Q2: when this effect reduces the card value below 1, does it still gain the blue cube?
A: The card can't go below 1 value, though I should make it explicitly clear.
Q3: I think the meta is to spam striker until he is dead for explosive damage
A: Yeahhh.... It quite difficult to balance striker, but I also don't want to nerf him too hard to forcefully change the meta. Although this team specifically surrounding the striker as the team main damage.
Q4: IDK if this is intended, but just a lucky draw (or drawing with buffer if it goes above hand limit) will destroy the first wave always.
A: It's intended. This prototype was also for my class, and my professor said the game can only last 15 minutes max. Still, despite this I never see new player got through the game with less than 20 minutes.
Q5: Does buffer draw cards above hand limit?
A: Yes. I forgot to explicitly write that if you have less than 7 cards in hand, you draw up to 7 cards. But since the game is quite short this skill rarely shows its advantage.
Q6: BTW, would the boss still use its "even" merged ability and deal damage to itself even if it dies by doing so?
A: Yes lol. I find it funny at the thought that player keep building shield until the boss died.
Don't worry lmao, I like reading your long notes. It always give me motivation when I see someone commented. Once again thank you so much for your supper constructive feedbacks. I'm going to keep working on this for my class, so stay tunned for the final version.
Thanks for the compliment! I understand the UI is a bit terrible right now, but I'm glad you can still enjoy it. I see how it would be difficult for the casual visual novel enjoyers, especially since the gameplay is heavily depend on reasoning. I have some ideas to make the learning curve easier. The gameplay may fit more with the theme when the whole chapter is finally published.
I'll look into those suggestions! Sorry, I been quite busy so I can't give you a long answer, but I had another playtest yesterday, and I'm quite confidence that I had gather enough data to make this gameplay somewhat polished.
I'm moving from our current whitebox prototype to working prototype. Probably gonna take a long long time (hopefully before summer).
And don't feel sorry. Your freaking long comment made my day (since u are the only one following the project lol). And thanks for playing!
No way lol! I never expect one day I would have such a big fan.
I agree with you to keep it this way, even though I find them pretty ugly. Fixing arts seem to take so much of my time, since there's so many scenes. I guess I will take your advice and just f it.
I know many people like it more when the game has multiple outcomes, but I feel like it doesn't fit with a story like this. It's nice that it doesn't disappoint you.
But yahh, thanks so much for commenting, Kazak's soul. Very glad to have you as my first loyal audience lmao!
OH SHIET THE JUDGE IS HERE!
I appreciate the suggestions. I didn't have time to implement them during the jam time, but I will try to add them in the post-jam update. Though I'm not a good writer, so it's probably just a linear story with meaningless choices :(
Thank you for checking out my game! It's wild that you could all the jam games. I nominated myself for the first prize.
Thank you so much for the compliment! I could have finish the game as a whole if not for irl stuff, unfortunately. This is definitely much riskier and larger scale than my usual jam games. The story have more mature theme compared to the family-friendly spirit of Hololive, so I tried to tone down a lot of the violence and social problems. It thus feels a bit more comedy, but I'm glad it didn't affect your experience, maybe.
When the rating done I would definitely add some BGMs, lol. I always play game without volume so I didn't realize how important it is. Again, thank you so much for checking out my game!
No Freaking way! I'm a big fan of your Inashi game. Thank you so much for checking out my visual novel!
I was busy with university so I only have one week and a day to work on the game. I wrote the whole thing on the last day and it was like few minutes left before deadline, so I only managed to download two free SFX and that is lol.
I usually play game with my volume turned silent, so this was a good lesson for me to not underestimate the magic of BGMs.
I really appreciate that you find my game enjoyable! Inashi was so polished and beautiful. I was so amaze on how you could programmed the second window... oops, I need to shut myself before I spoil everything.
Thank you for your kind words. It means a lots!
Sorry for the late responses. I saw the notification, but I couldn't reply immediately because I was looking for the right words.
I appreciate the feedbacks. I agree that the reading parts could be separated into smaller, digestible chunks. And many many more points in your comment that I can't write them all out.
I don't want to flood this page with 3 long paragraphs to explain what changes I would make in the next update (it's just a plan right now so don't expect much). I managed to find someone with good writing experience and we gonna work it out together. It might not be what you have in mind, but I'm glad to see someone so passionate for the game! Thank you so so much!
The voice actor was a Vietnamese-American. Vietnamese was not their first language. I didn't expect them to pronounce the name, but they practice spelling it regardless. When I heard the voice record I was completely amazed.
I wasn't good at writing back then (not that I am now), so it was more like a skill issue rather than technical limitation.
That's a valid feedback! I'm more of a programmer/artist myself than a writer, so throughout the jam I didn't follow any writing framework, but just added scenes I thought it's cool. I understand it has a big pacing problem. Some parts and characters (like Magni) aren't really important, but they were added just because I'm a hololive fan and want to see them mentioned in the story. So that's probably why it feels like a loosely connected plots than a proper story.
The children are the main characters, so I thought it's important to establish their relationship in early story. But I ran out of time and was unable to give them a show.
You seem like a better writer than me. In your opinion, how would you solve the framing device problem in the story?
Glad you like it! It's unfortune that I can't work on the sfx/music due to the jam limited time. Tbh it's a miracle that I reach to Canadian Kronii part. I set aside my university to works on the game, so right now I have to priority my studies. I'm still interest in releasing future update, though it might be a very long time.
Thank you for your heartful comment!
Nooo you spoiled the whole plots! Jk.
Glad that you enjoy the story! I spent the whole day drawing Canadian Kronii just because I thought it's the most funny part lmao. But it's true that she's playing a big part of the story. I might keep working on this if not being crushed by my university workload. But still I have the interest to update the story, though might not be able to completely finish it.
Biboo small frame struck me more like a spell user lol. I also give me excuses to let her say the deez nuts joke in Thai.
I won't spoil anything though, so let your imagination runs wild!
Glad you find your favorite parts in the story! I spent most of the jam time on the drawings, and unfortunately didn't have the time to implement the multiple choices and audios on the later parts. It would been much better if I had a team to work with.
I know it's doesn't feel like a proper game due to the lack of interactivity and abrupt ending. I might update the game with some screen shaking and proper sfx/music. Though it's quite a miracle that I managed to went this far in the story in such limited time.
Thank you for your feedback!
Hi, I just read some of your smuts and got quite interested in how "dominant" your character is (sorry if it sounds weird). I want to create an nsfw VN this time, and it would be nice to have you as a writer. If you're interested in working with me then feel free to send a request to my discord: thegreatjellyfish.
