Thanks for taking the time to share this.

Honestly, I tried to do this from the moment I first created my page, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. Even after reading your comment, researching it some more, and playing with the settings, itch.io doesn’t seem to allow me to place a demo button at the top next to the purchase button. To compensate, I made sure to call out the downloadable demo near the beginning of the page.

But since you took the time to comment, I’d love to provide you with a key to the full version.

I’ve just updated the demo for The Endless Night with a major rework of the ally system.

Allies now have player-controlled abilities, so you can decide when to heal, defend, suppress enemies, change formation, or use more specialized actions. The roster has also expanded with The Masked Vigilante, The Mayor, and The Mob Boss.

Spell cards received a substantial visual redesign as well, with clearer source symbols, combo information, targeting, and effect presentation.

The free Windows demo includes the complete first act:

For this round, I’d particularly appreciate feedback on:

  • Whether the Ally Ability menu is easy to understand
  • Whether controlling allies adds meaningful decisions without slowing combat down
  • Whether the redesigned spell cards make recipes and effects clearer
  • Which allies feel useful, confusing, overpowered, or underpowered
  • Any bugs involving targeting, abilities, or sigils

The full update breakdown is here:

Thanks to anyone who gives the new build a try.

A major new build of The Endless Night is now available on itch.io!

The Endless Night is an urban fantasy roguelite deck-builder built around poker-hand-style spell combinations, tactical combat, and protecting civilians from cultists and supernatural monsters.

The ally system has received its largest upgrade yet. Instead of simply watching allies act, you can now command key abilities yourself and decide when to heal, defend, suppress enemies, change formation, or unleash specialized attacks.

Three new allies have also joined the roster:

  • The Masked Vigilante — concealment, rescues, and formation swaps
  • The Mayor — Red Tape, defensive rallies, and delayed enemy attacks
  • The Mob Boss — Hit Lists, Favors, hired muscle, and illicit rewards

Existing allies received new abilities and reworks too, including player-controlled Defib and Triage for the Paramedic, Overwatch for SWAT, and a multi-target Open Fire volley for the Beat Cop.

The update also includes redesigned spell cards, expanded volatile sigils, new Lightning and Cosmic familiars, and a balance pass for progression and late-game ritual pressure.

A free Windows demo containing the complete first act is available here:

I hope you’ll give the new build a try and see which ally earns a place on your team.

We're up to Dev Log 10 with lots of major improvements for the game! I'd love your feedback on this beta version of the game.

Hi everyone,

I’m a solo developer working on The Endless Night, an urban-fantasy roguelike deckbuilder built in LÖVE2D.

You play a modern mage trying to stop a supernatural event before sunrise. Combat revolves around combining spell cards into poker-hand-style spell combos, protecting civilians, summoning elementals, using rituals and items, and adapting your deck as increasingly dangerous creatures enter the city.

The game is currently in Early Access and open development, but there is also a free demo that includes the complete first act, so you can try a substantial portion of the game before deciding whether to purchase it.

I recently released a major update, and I’d especially appreciate feedback on:

  • How clearly the game teaches its systems during the first few encounters
  • Whether the spell-combo system creates interesting decisions
  • Combat pacing, difficulty, and encounter variety
  • The usefulness and balance of items, allies, summons, and rituals
  • UI readability and information that is difficult to find
  • Any bugs or confusing behavior you encounter

The current art and sound are intended to be placeholders during testing and open development. They are there to establish the game’s atmosphere, communicate the intended vibe, and make the current build more immersive, but they are not meant to represent the final production assets.

Even a few quick impressions would be valuable. It would also help to know how far you played and which mechanics, spell combinations, or strategies you tried.

You can play the free demo here:

Thank you for taking a look. I’m also happy to return the favor and provide feedback on other projects posted here.

New update and dev log. Take a look!

Would love some feedback and there is a free demo.

Hi everyone,

I’m Jens Andersen, a game developer and creative director with over 20 years of experience making games. The Endless Night is a personal project and a love letter to several things I care about deeply: urban fantasy, roguelite deck-builders like Slay the Spire, Monster Train, and Balatro, and games built around that “just one more run” feeling.

I wanted to take everything I love about tense card-based decision-making, escalating runs, supernatural threats, and build-defining choices, then wrap it in a modern dark fantasy setting where players are protecting civilians, fighting cultists and monsters, and trying to stop an Avatar of Darkness before the city falls.

The game is in open development, and that is a big part of why I’m sharing it here. There is a free demo available now, and I think there is enough game there for players to get a real feel for the direction: the deck-building, the combat, the tone, the map progression, and the core loop.

You can watch some gameplay here: https://youtu.be/xcgfhoNXiKs?si=cFKQLBs0FPBODHSv&t=250

The full Early Access build includes the complete three-act run and boss fight, but what I’m looking for most right now is honest feedback from people who enjoy roguelites, deck-builders, card battlers, urban fantasy, or indie games in development.

What feels fun? What feels confusing? What would make you want to play another run? What should I build, balance, or improve next?

If that sounds interesting, I’d love for you to try the demo and let me know what you think.
