A fun game which does require some figuring out!

Thanks for giving our entry a try! We're not very experienced with 3D camera movement so this was indeed a bit of a new challenge for us. Definitely something we could work more at for a better player experience!

v1.0 of A Series of Rude Awakenings is out!

Patch notes for v1.0:

  • Combat:
    • Added fire hazards to later stages.
    • Artifacts:
      • Anti-Ambush Shield is now Fireproof Shield.
  • Other:
    • Skills are now acquired from a new NPC rather than from chests.
  • Resolved Issues:
    • Skill potion UI should now display correctly upon entering a new stage.

A bit earlier and a bit smaller than the usual update, but here it is hot on the heels of last Friday's update!

Patch Notes for v0.5:

  • User Interface:
    • Added a timer to help keep track of how long the player has until they lose the chance at the bonus chest.
    • Made stage exit more visible.
    • Slight adjustments to Renewable Vial icons.
  • Combat:
    • Enemy difficulty adjustments.
    • Void Field properties adjusted.
  • Other:
    • Added new sound effects.

A Series of Rude Awakenings has been update to version 0.4 (PC and Browser)!

Patch Notes for v0.4:

  • User Interface:
    • The player will now receive a notification when an artifact is picked up.
    • Added icon for keeping track of current Spirit Potion stock.
    • Stage transitions now let the player know which stage they just entered.
  • Combat:
    • Added Spirit Potions:
      • A storable resource which is automatically spent on skill use, immediately restoring the use of that skill.
      • Up to 3 can be stored concurrently.
    • Added effect to let the player know they are currently benefiting for the “Rage” buff.
    • Added effect to let the player know they successfully blocked an enemy attack.
    • Fire Thrower skill adjustments:
      • Enemies now continue taking damage for a short duration after fire dissipates.
    • Void Field skill adjustments:
      • Now slows enemy attacks in addition to their movement.
      • Radius of skill is larger.
  • Other:
    • The following artifact has been switched out:
      • Shield of Life >> Anti-Ambush Shield
    • Added and adjusted sound effects.
    • Added screen shake effect when player takes damage.
  • Resolved issues:
    • Fixed issue where player interactions would sometimes be locked upon entering a new stage.

v0.3 of A Series of Rude Awakenings is now available!
In addition to a new PC download, you can now also play directly in your browser through the link on the game's main page!

v0.3 Patch Notes:

  • User Interface:
    • Damage dealt by player now shows on screen.
    • Adjustments to pause menu.
    • Improved visuals for health bar.
    • Improved visuals for Renewable Vials.
  • Combat:
    • Enemy balance adjustments.
    • Staff and Spear weapons can no longer block.
    • Three new player skills added:
      • Bomb
      • Rage
      • Fire Thrower
  • Other:
    • Renewable Vials no longer automatically replenishes every stage. To obtain more vial charges, the player may purchase vials from the new merchant who appears once per stage.
  • Resolved Issues:
    • Music settings now save correctly between runs and upon relaunching the game.
    • The Staff no longer hits enemies more than once.
    • When the player exits a stage, coins on the ground will automatically collect.

  • Bug fixes:
    • Attack power now applies correctly.
    • Pause menu now shows the correct upgrade status.
    • Pause menu scale adjusted.
    • Several enemy spawn locations have been adjusted.
    • Bringing up the upgrade menu now correctly pauses the game.
    • The Staff is now able to hit crates.
  • Artifact changes:
    • Featherweight Anklet >> Feather Pouch
    • Shield of Life >> Lightweight Shield
    • Shell of Roll Protection >> Shell of Hand Protection
  • Combat changes:
    • Enemy health values now display with their health bar.
    • Enemies now take fall damage.
    • Knockback:
      • Weapons now do varying degrees of knockback on the final hit of a combo.
      • Blocking enemy melee attacks with the shield now stuns and applies knockback to the enemy.
  • Other changes:
    • Music can now be turned off in the pause menu.

Hi!

We are Team Ninobi, a small student team of game designers working out of the Netherlands.

This demo for A Series of Rude Awakenings is the result of our efforts in learning Unity and C# while concentrating our learnings into a playable product.

The game is a small roguelike experience with character customization and side-scrolling combat. This pre-release demo lets the player venture down an increasingly treacherous cave system full of enemies and treasure.
