Hi everyone,

I've just published a Twitch overlay minigame and I'd like to get feedback from streamers on what you think of the concept and presentation. The game runs at the bottom of the screen and is to encourage viewer engagement and  cheering. We had good results with our channel but a range of opinions would be great.

Please give it a try. I'm particularly interested in thoughts on the whole Unity/green screen approach, configuration settings, and whether the graphics should be dialed up or down as appearances may very depending on the game streamed and the number of viewers involved.

Let me know what you think

Sy_ChatWars: a Twitch Overlay Minigame

Hi everyone,

I've just published a fun little minigame for overlaying twitch streams. With this game, your viewers create a character with bit cheers. The size of their cheer builds the strength of the character. These characters then battle in teams until only the best fans are left. There are also achievement crowns and badges for extra bragging rights. With many game modes, bosses, chat commands, and PvP showdowns it's a great way to keep your viewers engaged and cheering.

Right now it is just a proof of concept so I'm looking for affiliated or partnered streamers to try out the game and give feedback on what you and your viewers think.  Please give it a download and try it out on your stream. Everyone will love it.

For those trying out Chat Wars on your stream, post your channel name and time  here.

I'd like to stop in on your channel and see how you and your viewers do on a fresh start-up as well as join the gang and show everyone how it all comes together.

Most commands can be issued by both you and your viewers. These will be [alt] key combinations for you and “!commands“ that the viewers can type in chat. Commands are time regulated for the viewers so they do not become disruptive to your stream.

This information and more can also be found in "Documents\My Games\Chat Wars" folder when you install the game

[alt]+L/R+1

Spawn your character to the left or right team (optional) with +1 strength

[alt]+L/R+2

Spawn/add +20 strength points

[alt]+L/R+3

+300 strength points

[alt]+L/R+4

+4000 strength points

(Be careful not to overpower your viewers and toss their bits into the fire)

[alt]+B

Changes the Background between green and black for dedicated viewing (turns off the chroma key).

[alt]+C

Toggles the PvP threshold on and off. With PvP off, viewers will only fight bosses and not each other.

[alt]+N

Nukes the bots. Despawn's all bots and bosses in a shower of love showing death.

[alt]+X

Increases the consequences of losing the war. For each increase of the “Death State”, players will lose 25% of their strength when they lose a war. Read more in the Tips below

[alt]+H

"!horde"

Spawns a horde of bots that will either join the boss to fight the players, or join the players in fighting each other.

[alt]+K

!goodbye

Despawn your character. This can off balance the teams and should be used with caution. Use [alt]+P first to stop the war. Any badges or strength you have will be set to 0. The viewer's character status will be saved.

[alt]+P

"!pop"

Resets the current war and all character states in case someone gets locked up. This is beta software after all. It can also occasionally be used by a viewer to save their character.

[alt]+S

"!boss"

Spawns a Random boss and begins a boss war.

[alt]+W

"!war"

Immediately starts war of a random type. This can be a boss war if they are enabled.

"!l"

"!r"

Viewers adding these commands to a cheer or !showdown will make their character join the left or right team if a war or showdown has begun.

"!name"

This will briefly display the players name over their character so they may find it in the crowd

!showdown

This will begin a showdown. Viewers that then type !showdown will be added to the right side gang during the standoff. Only the viewers that type !showdown will be included in the war.

!d !b !h !i

Adding one of these to !showdown will set the stakes of losing the showdown, as per the “Death States” above.

Twitch Panel

The following can be copied and pasted into a Twitch panel so viewers can have an easy summary of available commands.

***** cut below *****

To join the Chat Wars, cheer with **ShowLove**; the amount of bits you donate is your strength.

cheering with **ShowLove** after you have joined will increase your strength!

add **!l** or **!r** to your cheer or !showdown to join a side during a war.

**!name** - Will briefly display your name above your character.

**!pop** - Sends everyone flying and ends a war (saving your character?)

**!war** - Immediately starts a war

**!boss** - Sends in a random boss and starts a boss war

**!horde** - Spawns in a horde to join the players, or the boss!

**!goodbye** - Removes your character and saves your badges and strength for next time

**!showdown** - Begins a showdown between you and anyone else typing !showdown. Add **!d**, **!b**, **!h**, or **!i** to set the stakes (only for the caller)

# Don't have bits?

Don't worry, there's always Ad Bits

(chat message bit icon - Get Bits button - Watch ads button)

As well as surveys from [**Twitch RPG**](https://rpg.twitch.tv)

(**works for non-US residents!**)

Each of the game settings comes with a pop up description of their function. Holding the mouse over the number field will display a brief explanation.

In order to connect Chat Wars with your channel you must enter your Channel Name in the Twitch Config settings. The Cheer and VIP settings are discussed further below and do not need to be altered for quick evaluations.

Sy_ChatWars runs as a separate game in the background while you stream. It can be added to your streaming platform as a “window source”. To make it transparent, the background can be chroma keyed out with the colour code #0000FF00 (bright green). For Streamlabs, a Similarity of 175 and a Smoothness of 50 works well.

The game is designed for 1080p resolution and 16:9 layout. Game play is primarily at the edges of the screen. This allows you to set Sy_ChatWars as a topmost widget so viewers can see their characters while keeping your primary streaming space clear.
