Just came back and beat the game. So much fun! Plants vs Zombies was such a huge part of my childhood, loved to see the obvious references (the item drop animations, notes, etc.) but with tower defense mechanics tossed in from other inspirations. Like I said in my initial comment, managing between rooms and activating / deactivating towers was a ton of fun for me! Being able to swap rooms around was an incredibly "get out of jail free" moment to bring a monster from the very end to the very beginning -- a strategy with varying degrees of success once monsters were showing up across multiple rooms. So many great designs for both the ghost towers (LOVED the bear animation) and monsters (omg, the guy who'd just turn off all your towers... :P) Music slapped, and audio design was great too, especially for tracking which enemies were present!

Needless to say I really enjoyed the game!

What a cute game!! I absolutely loved the pixel art style and especially the design of the main character sprite - adorable walk animation! Like others have said, I wasn't 100% sure what I was supposed to do, and it seemed like there were some funny physics glitches (I got myself stuck inside a beanbag for a bit!) but I loved the idea of the limited vision and puzzles. Great submission!

INCREDIBLE VIBES. The graphics were compelling, beautiful, immersive. The AUDIO DESIGN was incredibly immersive and made the game much more spooky to me! The writing was compelling and I also loved the way the letters were presented, scrolling across the screen. I'll admit I didn't finish the game (I know I'm playing games for a horror themed game jam, but I'm easily scared and decided to quit like a coward) but I may come back to it, because I really want to know what happens!!

THIS GAME WAS INCREDIBLE. The atmosphere, visuals, and ESPECIALLY audio design were so spooky. The level design was really interesting -- lots of choices to be made between getting more batteries, more diamonds, and more direct routes to go forward! The ending was incredibly compelling, and the jumpscare REALY got me. INCREDIBLE work!

THIS IS AWESOME!! The gameplay art is super cute, the splash screen absolutely RULES! I loved the extremely variable gameplay mechanics, nothing gets my brain ticking like trying to manage multiple things at once. SO much fun -- I haven't beat it yet but I'll definitely be returning to do so!

Incredibly fun toy to mess around with, I'm sure the alt-control version is awesome! The crazy visual design for the character / instrument / ??? was a lot of fun, as was switching between times of day.  I started getting into the rhythm of layering noises -- if I had to leave a piece of critique, it would be to have some kind of baseline simple drumbeat or something to keep the flow going even if you take your fingers off all four arrows. Great work!

What a crazy idea and fun game! Loved the atmosphere that was created by the limited vision, although it made it incredibly challenging to avoid the zombies at high speed. Despite that though, I was laughing at the premise!

What a fun collection of warioware-esque minigames! Loved the fact that you could choose which one to go into too. Short, simple, and silly!

I didn't finish playing the game (trying to rate as many games as I can before the rating period is over, LOL) but I was really enjoying both the visuals and the writing in this game! Loved the atmospheric starry skybox and the approach to a mixed 2D / 3D style. The writing was thought-provoking and made me curious as to how the game would end, I might loop back to it later! Unfortunately I wasn't able to figure out any of the puzzles myself (I did actually arrive at "palindrome" as a potential option but thought it would be for the first door, not the second!) Overall a great submission that I enjoyed!

This was so fun!! Really loved the concept, and the art was so stylized and expressive! I thought the 1st level did a really good job of tutorializing mechanics, so big level design props there. I struggled with the 2nd level because I couldn't quite get the wall-jumping to work as well as I wanted to -- if I pressed right while trying to jump, for example, I'd fall off the wall instead of smoothly jumping the way I would expect to. But regardless, I really enjoyed this game a lot, a job well done, congrats!

Simple game but cute and fun! I liked the run sprite for the player and the funky rainbow lighting across the map. I'm guessing from the account name that you guys are students -- congrats on shipping a game (not all projects make it past the finish line, so I think it's worth commending!) and I hope you guys learned a lot from the process of making this!

I loved the art for this game, the bouncy slimes were really charming to me and the way you guys made the rune drawing visuals was also fun! Like others have already said, the diagonal rune was difficult to make, although I did eventually get it to work!(On first try I did the diagonal downwards, then went horizontal to the right; but eventually I realized I had to start with the horizontal to the left, then diagonal upwards. Arrows on the diagram to indicate directions might help!) I think there's potential here if you all had more time to work on the game.

I saw this was the only game on your itch page, is this your team's first time doing a game jam? If so, congrats on your submission!

LOVED the art for this, what a cute little concept!! Took me a little while for each accessory to figure out where I was going, but I loved the moments of discovery when I realized where I could head next. Cute and fun!

5:35!

Simple but CUTE!! I love the personality in the characters and in all the icons (was delighted to see they were randomized every time!!) I think I had some input issues with registering my key inputs but that might be on my end, haha. (EDIT: I've played some more games now. DEFINITELY on my end, lol, shame I couldn't play this game for as long as I might've liked because of it!)

Loved this so much!

THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!! Everything across the board -- art, audio, puzzle / level design, writing -- are well beyond quality that I'd expect out of a game jam. I have to commend both the unique choices that make the game memorable, but also the cohesion of game elements working together (environmental storytelling supporting the written characterization of the uncle supporting the puzzle mechanics!) I would LOVE to know how the ending camera work was done, so wild and trippy but awesome! Loved this so much!

WHAT A BLAST!! I had a great time driving through gigantic hoards of zombies as they all started to pile up in the center of the map. The art & VFX had a really great retro feel to them!

LOVED the art and audio design on this so much -- peak vibes!! I was able to collect the cheese, wasn't able to find the other items despite my best attempts to explore the space -- 20 seconds might've been a bit too short for me personally to get a good sense of the space, especially as I kept running into seeming dead ends😅 I got good at cheesing the rat king by running in circles around the interconnected first few rooms which was funny but possibly not intended!😂 Overall, awesome submission!

What an ambitious concept for a game! I liked the variety in the puzzles, as well as the overall theming of the game.  Nice usage of props and VFX as well, I liked the atmosphere of the god rays shining through the windows.

The statue room reminded me of puzzles in resident evil games 😂 I tried the original version first and almost figured it out, but I had the queen facing east (away from the King) and I had no idea where to orient the jester. Later, I got to the fourth room in the game (the one with the organ), but I think I missed a few notes and it wouldn't allow me to try again for whatever reason. I think you guys had a great start here, just might've have overscoped for the amount of time you had to complete this jam / could've used bit of design iteration!

The environment was really cute in this game, I liked the atmosphere created by the fog and the details the props! I had a bit of a hard time picking up the gameplay at first, but I think I figured it out over time (swap between day and night, find the hidden difference)! Wish it was easier to compare back and forth instead of just relying on memory, though, because it's quite hard to pay attention to all the details in a space. I didn't end up beating the game, but I did find two of the ghosts before getting a game over when going back to the chair. Was it more than one ghost per room, or did I miss something?

Either way, congrats on making a 3D game for the first time -- love when people pick up new skills / tools for a game jam!

Thanks for playing the game!! Glad you enjoyed the details, I had a really fun time putting together the fake web UI!

Pulling from firsthand experience in the fanfiction mines! :D

SOOO glad the fujoshi vibes found their intended target 🔥Glad to hear you really enjoyed the game (and even think it has future potential!!)

I was hoping to encourage both strategies so I'm glad that happened for you!! (It was really funny drafting up all the dialogue, and then taking a second pass to add intentional spelling mistakes 😂)

Glad you had fun with it!!

the real ghosts are the memories of what i was up to in 2012 😆

Haha, delighted to hear you were experimenting with the gameplay!! The long one was initially supposed to be impossible to beat, but then we lowered the timer so it wouldn't take way too long to run out -- and now I think it's beatable with some smart strategizing LOL! Glad you had fun!

When brainstorming this game, one of my top goals was, "I can't just make HyperTyper, it's gotta be different somehow." Happy to be here for the keysmashers of the world!

Best part of this game was all the little details, the cutscenes and the music were great! The De Stijl style maze was, frankly, a genius and inspired choice which I could never have seen coming. Took me quite a while to beat though -- it's extremely disorienting not knowing what direction you're supposed to be headed, and then having that change every time you hit a block! The platformer was easier to complete, but I ran into maybe ten ghosts in a row before getting the hang of it haha! It all felt like a ... "period-accurate" level of jank / frustration, though. This was a really fun jam submission!

Did I play this game, like, five times to get to 2nd place on the leaderboard? YES, and it was worth EVERY SECOND OF THAT TIME, and I MIGHT COME BACK FOR MORE AFTER RATING OTHER GAMES. It took me a while to figure out the mechanics of the game (I didn't realize i could hold E on the wine for ages, and didn't realize I could carry two items at once for FAR too long) but once I picked it all up, it felt like the game was really well-tuned -- I could do almost any order in time as long as i didn't run out of time, and strategic power up usage helped save my butt a few times! GIGANTIC shoutout to Cam on the art, love your art style sooo much!! And to Noir on the music, I absolutely jammed out to tunes while cooking. The audio design was great too - the character voice lines made me laugh!

wow, what a scary game for chicaghoul! the actions in this game are truly terrifying and it would be SUCH A SHAME if anything even remotely close was to happen in real life!!

in all seriousness, the humor of this game felt so cathartic for the time / world we live in. i accidentally had the spray can equipped going into the 2nd boss fight, but it made me laugh every time i ran over another "ABOLISH ICE" message in the dark while shooting at zombies! and shoutout to dani's music -- banger tunes to fight billionares to >:)

THIS IS AWESOME! I'm entranced by this game's visuals and audio --especially the reactive effects from interacting with the planets, asteroids, and words. I had the feeling that I wanted to stick around and absorb the game's atmosphere, and just keep playing with new words. Amazing game!

This was delightful to play! I really loved the way that this game highlighted these locations and objects that would otherwise go completely unnoticed. The stick figure characters added a subtle touch of personality to every scene and made me wonder about the narrative of these characters in my head - really a thoughtful game. And, I loved the audio in this game a lot! <3
