Hi, I’m Sourcelator. I’ve released Familiar, a small desktop companion for Windows and macOS.
Press a shortcut, ask about your screen, and keep the answer beside your game. It can explain a confusing stat or give you a small hint. Familiar reads and talks; it never sends input to your game.
Here’s a real example from Familiar 0.2.9 on Mac with Claude. I asked what the Archer’s 5×4 bow stat meant in Battle for Wesnoth; the reply explains it and circles the number.

$5 early access. AI access is separate. Use your own Claude account through the native Claude Code client, an API key, or a compatible Ollama vision model. There’s no Familiar subscription. ChatGPT-plan login is not included.
The current downloads are unsigned, and updates are installed manually. Please read the install notes and known limits before buying. I’d like to hear whether this feels useful beside your game, and where it gets in the way.
Familiar on itch.io — downloads, requirements and support
Familiar uses AI-assisted code and artwork. The clip uses actual game and app captures; framing and a final hold were added, and the answer is unchanged.
Gameplay: The Battle for Wesnoth 1.18.8, © The Battle for Wesnoth contributors. No affiliation or endorsement. Demo media is GPL-3.0-or-later with the original artwork notices preserved; credits and editable demo sources are available here. Familiar’s app license is separate.
