Hello itch.io community! I’m thrilled to finally share the initial release of my project, EchoCity.

It is a narrative-driven audio mystery set in the cyberpunk dystopia of 2084. In a world dominated by overwhelming visual noise and neon holograms, seeing is deceiving. Only the sound is true.

The Premise

You play as Mark "The Ear" Callan, a blind ex-police investigator turned night operator for the massive Aether Corporation. Sitting in a cramped, rain-battered radio tower, your routine job is to sort the city's "noise"—intercepting suspicious signals for the elite.

But tonight, on a dead frequency, routine breaks down. You catch a signal that officially shouldn't exist: a "digital ghost" of a girl named Ophelia, begging for help before she is erased forever.

Why an "Audio-First" Cyberpunk Game?

The core idea behind EchoCity was to explore the cyberpunk genre from a different perspective. We are used to seeing neon-drenched streets and high-tech visuals in games like Blade Runner or Cyberpunk 2077. I wanted to challenge the player by taking those visuals away.

By playing as a blind protagonist, the player has to rely on the same tools as Mark: acute hearing and intuition. The development focused heavily on creating a rich, immersive soundscape. The rain against the window, the hum of vintage analog equipment, and the distant sirens of Echo-City aren't just background noise—they are your world and your clues. The act of tuning a radio frequency becomes a tactile mechanic for "searching" through the darkness.
