Okay, so after having this for a couple days and finally deciding to post here, I found out what was wrong right after, so I'll answer my own question for others that end up in this predicament:

Slave energy is not represented very well in the UI, but a slave who does not have energy is not able to be a companion. Cast invigorate or let them rest, and this should fix things.

I didn't see it explained in the in-game tutorial. I had a companion, lost a fight, and she has been unable to follow me since.

Obedience: 100

Stress: 0

Loyalty: 100

What do I do?

No, sorry, I accidentally deleted the save so I can't go back and check. I'll include the console in the future.

Question: how do you raise the skill cap for an individual? My starting slave is awful compared to some of the ones I've picked up along the way.

  1. 0.5.5d (although this bug carried over from the last version through a save)
  2. Win64
  3. After capturing slaves and returning to mansion, slaves no longer show up
