Hey,
I haven't responded to comments in a while ( I'm very backlogged😅) but I just wanted to chime in here. Thanks for taking the time to play my games and leave feedback.
I want my games to be about the story, the characters, the world, and the romance, and I hope they’re a positive experience for everyone who plays them. As the creator, I want to maintain that space, so I hope this helps give a bit of context about how I work.
Just to touch on a couple things for anyone curious:
1. Writing and game dev are hobbies for me, so I create when I enjoy it, and I share because I hope others will enjoy it too <3 Right now, I'm not trying to make this a career or monetize any of my work. If that ever changes, I’ll naturally need to narrow my focus. For now, I'm just having fun creating things I love and sharing them online.
2. Yes, I have ADHD, which means my creative process comes in bursts. Even so, I've completed several long-term projects. Sometimes I won’t touch a project for months, and other times I’ll write multiple chapters in a few days. This rhythm allows me to complete long-term projects at my own pace. This is why I bounce between projects, and also why I don’t monetize my work. I don’t run a Patreon, Ko-fi, etc. because I know my work flow tends to be inconsistent and come in bursts.
I understand the concern about scope and burnout, it’s good advice for someone trying to monetize or make this a profession. I know that my approach isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. That's just part of the process of sharing something you create with others. Thanks again for checking out my work and sharing your perspective.
Oh no, that's absolutely heartbreaking to lose everything you'd worked on, I'm so sorry. It makes sense why writing stories or coming up with ideas would be really challenging after something like that.
Perfection is definitely another one of those things that's so tricky to work with. I think for most creators, it's natural for us to want what we create to match what we envision in our minds as close as possible. But it can be really frustrating when the two don't line up like we'd like. I'm so glad you were able to get a bit of your fun back through gel pens and coloring books!
This is a great idea, taking the time to do something fun without worrying about it. I took your advice and did a couple short story scenarios and it's helped so much, thank you for the advice :) Creating should be fun, thank you for reminding me that that's what's really important in the process <3
Hi Nightly Crow, thank you for your kind words <3 This is so true, fear and doubt can eat you up till you overanalyze/pick apart everything you do and you forget what made you love creating in the first place. There's definitely a lot of wisdom in your advice to 'trust the process'. I love stories and exploring new worlds and characters, that's at the heart of creating for me and I need to remember that. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment, thank you for sharing your advice and experience and for the encouraging words :)
Yup, that's where Chapter 1 ends currently :) I love this concept though, the option to explore/free roam the city in the first chapter and being able to find hints/easter eggs about each Coven is a great idea! I've been thinking about adding a map of Northwyck outlining the boundaries of each Coven's territory in a coming update, so this would go really well with that!
I'm sorry you didn't find what you were looking for, but I'm so happy you enjoyed The House of Noctus! And thank you so much! Writing is such a subjective pursuit, it's fun to play around with different styles but sometimes hard to know (at least for me) what works well and what doesn't, which makes feedback like this so valuable :) Also, were you able to find what you were looking for? If not, feel free to describe it here and maybe myself or someone else can help with what you were looking for <3
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed The House of Noctus :) And I'm so glad it helped with inspiration, that honestly means so much to me! I'd love to hear more about what sort of stories you write if you're comfortable sharing, I'm always looking for inspiration myself! And haha, I know right, I've always wondered why there aren't more angsty vampires and werewolves in this space! Definitely looking to add more :)
Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed the first chapter of The House of Noctus! Hehehe don't let them hear that 😏Their rivalry for MCs affection is already hot enough to start a blood war. They'd both love nothing more than an excuse to take one another out of the running, even if it would jeopardize their Coven's fragile truce with The Crimson Court
Hi, I apologize for the ambiguity on my part :) ! I’ve got it labeled as an otome because players can choose to play as a female MC with male love interests, but there’s also the option of playing as a male MC or a nonbinary MC with male love interests. At the moment, there’s no option to change the LIs’ genders (that’s more of a skill issue on my end than anything else 😅)
From what I read while preparing for the otome jam, a game could still fall under the otome umbrella if it includes the option of a female MC with male LIs, even if it also offers other MC options. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! I'm still learning a lot in this space, and I appreciate the correction if I made a mistake 😄
So yes, players will be able to choose whether to play as a top or bottom. Sorry about the confusion on my end!
Hi, sorry about all the confusion on my end! Yes, you’ll be able to choose whether to play as a top or bottom. Power games are a vampire’s bread and butter, after all 😄
During intimate moments, players will have multiple options to respond with more dominant or submissive choices depending on their preference. In more explicit scenes, you’ll also be able to choose whether you’d like to be the top or bottom when that choice affects the experience. Some love interests may have their own preferences 😉 but ultimately, your choices shape the dynamic.
Thank you for giving The House of Noctus a try, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! <3 Also so honored you chose THoN to be your first IF/Interactive Fiction novel! For the longest time I only played Visual Novels too, but then on a whim I tried an Interactive Fiction Novel, and I found that both were VNs and IFs were so much fun :) It's heartwarming to hear that you had a similar experience, Itch.io is filled with a tone of amazing VNs and IFs! Happy gaming!!
