For a slightly more recent example, anyone who's played Pokemon X/Y and up would surely know about Pokemon Amie, or whatever it's called in Sun/Moon. Due to the fact that i have many a Sylveon, yes, I've definitely used it. And kinda love it too. Makes my pokemon team feel a bit more 'alive'.
