I would like to show you a script which allows to generate, manipulate and align vertex normals.
Everything is based on layer system.
It has 3 different generation algorithms:
1. topology based
2. using projection gizmo
3. projection normals from other mesh ( transfer normals )
Every mesh can be divided into up to 7 layers and each 'normal' layer can be calculated independently.
This way you can achieve nurbs shading quality level using polygonal meshes.
It is not limited to hard surface assets:
