Yeah the explosions would be something we would definitely improve if we had more time to play test it.
As for the second button, it isn't supposed for you to go there, it's for you to throw the shield xD If you are able to go out of the map, then that is a bug...
Haha this is perfect.
I can beat my game under 1m30s, killing all the enemies and doing 0 blocks.
But I bet you are not able to simply beat the game in 1 hour playing it xD

Sadly I came late but if you're still willing to try, here it is: https://s0nikkukun.itch.io/unshielded
I saw a streamer playing this game and immediately caught my attention. Left it there on my second monitor while I was working on other stuff for like half an hour. Turns out I couldn't concentrate because I was constantly looking at it.
The atmosphere, the OG graphics, the audio, everything is amazing here. Moving in the rope is a bit tricky though but manageable.
This game really stands out from the others and is not getting the attention it deservers, probably because it's not a browser game... I really like these games that implement cool mechanics around the theme and really have something different instead of just following trends. Easy on my TOP 5 games.
Unfortunatelly I got a bit motionsick playing it (not the game's fault, I get this in many games, even minecraft xD) so I didn't play until the end, but I died a couple of times. 😂
Hey guys!
So, we made a game for a game jam and we think it turned out very good!
It's basically a sidescroller platformer game where you can throw a shield to kill enemies or use it to block against their attacks. The game is not easy thought, it will take some time to get used to the controls but once you get used to it, it becomes very satisfying to play and try out new combinations!
It's a short game that can be beat in about 1m30s, but you will die a lot of times along the way 🤣

Thank you for the feedback. We totally understand what you mean, the controls may look hard at first but it's just a matter of getting used to it. The game was way to easy initially without the "hold to throw", so we decided to add it to make it more challenging. Turns out many people seem to be annoyed by it 😂
Looks nice, will check it out.
Would love to also hear your opinion about our game:

- Yeah the explosion thing, you die because it didn't make sense to walk into the explosion so we decided to make it this way. I understand that it annoys most people but it was an intentional decision.
- The game is very hard and probably 2% of the players have finished it 😅
- I get you on the shield, but it was way too easy if you didn't have to hold it. We could probably adjust the timing with the jump better, but I totally understand your point.
Hahah finished it in "218.90000000006387" seconds 😎
Nice to see other speedrun games out here. It's the first project here I realized it was made using Haxe, that's great.
But I trully suggest that if you participate in future gamejams you should consider working with an artist though. It's hard to make everything on our own.
I really liked the game.
The only thing that annoies me a little is when I don't have enough resources to place a building, it could have some indication like a sound effect and making the green slots red or don't allow me to click on it at all.
But other than that is great! The art is very cool and cohesive, the audio too.
I spent way too much time upgrading and totally forgot about the rebelion thing 🤣
I like the art style. The music is very nice too.
I feel like there could be some simple more clear indication that the purple biscuits are infected or something. I also didn't understand correctly what is the purpose of them because it costs the same to make. Maybe they could be cheaper to incentivize to use them, otherwise I can just make the good ones forever and keep earning revenue, the game seems pretty linear in that regard. The poisining doesn't seem to be that much integrated in the progression of the game. You could probably go bankrupt by only making good biscuits, that way you need to poison some of them.
I don't know if you check the ration between good and poisoned biscuits you give to characters for the suspicion to increase (for example giving 1 posioned biscuit and 1 good biscuit is worse than giving 1 poisoned biscuit and 2 good biscuits), but would be nice to see.
The game could be more polished though. But the on my second day, something happened and now there are always 2 characters rogether and when I sell, I only sell to one and the other leaves without any biscuits. There is also someone already waiting as I bake the biscuits...

Very nice and unique game. It really stands out.
We would love to hear from you guys too!

Well, the music was very nice. The art of the animals were very good. But the environment could definitely be improved.
I think for a GameJam, it would be better if you stick with a single animal instead of 6. If the gameplay is not catchy in the first run, I don't think players will try again with other animal tbh... The thing is that all the animals have a very nice skill that pretty much change the way you play the game. And if a player only plays one time, then he is only experiencing 1/6 of the game.
My suggestion would be to stick with a single character but with more interactions instead, for example: If you'd be a cat, you could hide under mats, you would make noises on certain places (wood floor damaged for example), also look into the thrash... So basically add more gameplay mechanics into a single animal instead of scattering all the different mechanics on different animals.
Unfortunately the time is not enough to implement everything we want 🤣
The art is clearly amazing. The turrets and ant design were very creative. The gameplay is fun, I don't know if it is possible or not to beat the game without accepting any tasks but the tasks are a very interesting mechanic for a TD game.
Initially, on a first playthrough, the money text didn't update and didn't show any quest. (The money updated on the bottle though). On the second, everything worked very well and I was able to defeat the ant queen. It was very fun.
To be honest, I believe there was way too much effort put into the main menu that could be put on the gameplay instead. Some assets are not very coherent, maybe it's on purpose, but the turrets seemed to have a very high resolution with thin lines while other things are a bit blurry with thick lines.
It is hard to make things in a rush but I just wish it could have more levels though 😭
Thank you very much for playing the game! Yeah the game is not easy, it takes some time to be pro at it :D
- If the shield didn't have the delay, it would be way too easy, and everyone would be spamming it. It just takes some practice to get used to it.
- As for the defense, you need to defend yourself until the explosion finishes, it wouldn't make that much sense to defend only 1 frame and then walk into the explosion without suffering :D
I would love if you could play again with this in mind!
Thank you
