Thank you!
We went for the "shocking" emotional ending to tell a story about about a kid that did bad things in his past and regrets it. So, the game starts in a flashback, he was remembering his grandad scolding him, that's why it is black and white. In the transition to the next scene and the following one, you can hear a heartbeat and a cardiac monitor. In reality, the kid was in a coma all this time, dreaming about his past regrets and fighting them. Then, on the transition to the last scene you no longer hear the heartbeat, only a flatline from the cardiac monitor... Then, well I don't think I need to explain what happens on the ending scene. 😅
I had a bit of a hard time with the Ctrl key, I kept closing the game tab and other stuff when I pressed the wrong key. Would be nice for the right hand to press some keys too.
I'm not sure if not being pixel perfect was intentional but that gave me a bit of a headache because of motion sickness.
But still, the art is very nice and the music fits it perfectly.
After some time, I was able to reach the first checkpoint, I looked at the browser tab and for a moment I read it "Rage Dua1ity" 😅. A map progress bar would be really helpful though. The concept is nice, it fits the theme well, though visually it is very simplistic. I think the audio would sound better if it were to play a new clip every time you jump instead of reusing the same one, spamming jumping and always resetting the audio clip took a bit of the satisfaction away.
Hm that is totally true. The attack is indeed risky and experienced players can just speedrun through the game in a couple seconds. The level design is very simple, if it had more platforming elements or an enemy that shoots something would definitely improve it but we didn’t got time for that 😅
Thanks for playing!
Thank you very much for the feedback!
Yeah the explosions would be something we would definitely improve if we had more time to play test it.
As for the second button, it isn't supposed for you to go there, it's for you to throw the shield xD If you are able to go out of the map, then that is a bug...
Haha this is perfect.
I can beat my game under 1m30s, killing all the enemies and doing 0 blocks.
But I bet you are not able to simply beat the game in 1 hour playing it xD

Sadly I came late but if you're still willing to try, here it is: https://s0nikkukun.itch.io/unshielded
I saw a streamer playing this game and immediately caught my attention. Left it there on my second monitor while I was working on other stuff for like half an hour. Turns out I couldn't concentrate because I was constantly looking at it.
The atmosphere, the OG graphics, the audio, everything is amazing here. Moving in the rope is a bit tricky though but manageable.
This game really stands out from the others and is not getting the attention it deservers, probably because it's not a browser game... I really like these games that implement cool mechanics around the theme and really have something different instead of just following trends. Easy on my TOP 5 games.
Unfortunatelly I got a bit motionsick playing it (not the game's fault, I get this in many games, even minecraft xD) so I didn't play until the end, but I died a couple of times. 😂
Hey guys!
So, we made a game for a game jam and we think it turned out very good!
It's basically a sidescroller platformer game where you can throw a shield to kill enemies or use it to block against their attacks. The game is not easy thought, it will take some time to get used to the controls but once you get used to it, it becomes very satisfying to play and try out new combinations!
It's a short game that can be beat in about 1m30s, but you will die a lot of times along the way 🤣

Thank you for the feedback. We totally understand what you mean, the controls may look hard at first but it's just a matter of getting used to it. The game was way to easy initially without the "hold to throw", so we decided to add it to make it more challenging. Turns out many people seem to be annoyed by it 😂
