Being able to finish a game without using an engine was an important personal achievement. The level design and enemy mechanics could definitely be improved with a few more days. Not having any kind of level editor is tough 😅

Thank you!

I had a bit of a hard time with the Ctrl key, I kept closing the game tab and other stuff when I pressed the wrong key. Would be nice for the right hand to press some keys too.

I'm not sure if not being pixel perfect was intentional but that gave me a bit of a headache because of  motion sickness.

But still, the art is very nice and the music fits it perfectly.

After some time, I was able to reach the first checkpoint, I looked at the browser tab and for a moment I read it "Rage Dua1ity" 😅. A map progress bar would be really helpful though. The concept is nice, it fits the theme well, though visually it is very simplistic. I think the audio would sound better if it were to play a new clip every time you jump instead of reusing the same one, spamming jumping and always resetting the audio clip took a bit of the satisfaction away.

Thank you so much! It’s short indeed, judges of the Game Jam will spend 5 minutes on each game 😅

Thanks! Well, tried to go for a more challenging combat system, otherwise the game would be pretty boring and easy if you could just press to shoot.

Hm that is totally true.  The attack is indeed risky and experienced players can just speedrun through the game in a couple seconds. The level design is very simple, if it had more platforming elements or an enemy that shoots something would definitely improve it but we didn’t got time for that 😅

Thanks for playing!

Thank you very much for your feedback! Congrats and thanks for beating it!

Thank you very much for the feedback!
Yeah the explosions would be something we would definitely improve if we had more time to play test it.

As for the second button, it isn't supposed for you to go there, it's for you to throw the shield xD  If you are able to go out of the map, then that is a bug...

Haha this is perfect. I can beat my game under 1m30s, killing all the enemies and doing 0 blocks.
But I bet you are not able to simply beat the game in 1 hour playing it xD

Sadly I came late but if you're still willing to try, here it is: https://s0nikkukun.itch.io/unshielded

Thank you very much! It was a fun journey. It's amazing to see people are liking the game!

I saw a streamer playing this game and immediately caught my attention. Left it there on my second monitor while I was working on other stuff for like half an hour. Turns out I couldn't concentrate because I was constantly looking at it.

The atmosphere, the OG graphics, the audio, everything is amazing here. Moving in the rope is a bit tricky though but manageable.

This game really stands out from the others and is not getting the attention it deservers, probably because it's not a browser game... I really like these games that implement cool mechanics around the theme and really have something different instead of just following trends. Easy on my TOP 5 games.

Unfortunatelly I got a bit motionsick playing it (not the game's fault, I get this in many games, even minecraft xD) so I didn't play until the end, but I died a couple of times. 😂

Thank you very much! That really means a lot to us!

Hey guys!
So, we made a game for a game jam and we think it turned out very good!

It's basically a sidescroller platformer game where you can throw a shield to kill enemies or use it to block against their attacks. The game is not easy thought, it will take some time to get used to the controls but once you get used to it, it becomes very satisfying to play and try out new combinations!

It's a short game that can be beat in about 1m30s, but you will die a lot of times along the way 🤣

Thank you very much! It really can be seen as a puzzle game. The jump on the shield mechanic was something we planned initially but didn't have time to implement...

Thank you very much! Everyone is talking about the explosion😔 but it didn't feel right without it. The thing is that is totally possible to beat the game without defending at all while killing all enemies (might be a harder challenge though).

Thank you very much! It is indeed very rewarding after some time. The game becomes very pleasent when you kill by making combos of throwing and recalling the shield!

Hahaha maybe it was the only platform you've ever played. But thank you so much for the compliment!

Thank you for the feedback. We totally understand what you mean, the controls may look hard at first but it's just a matter of getting used to it. The game was way to easy initially without the "hold to throw", so we decided to add it to make it more challenging. Turns out many people seem to be annoyed by it 😂

Thank you very much! Yeah the explosion thing was something we decided to keep this way because it didn't look right to just go into the explosion, but maybe we should have change the animation instead of the making it kill you...

Haha yes you have to be careful. The idea is that you should throw the shield and recall it, instead of walking without it. The game becomes pretty easy after you learn the right timings.

Thank you very much! Only a few have actually beat the game! The controls are definitely something we would improve if we had invested more time on playstesting...

Yeah that is tottally what we tried to achieve! Thank you!

Yeah you can defeat the enemies by throwing the shield, that’s the point of the game xD

Thank you very much for finishing the game!

There are definitely some aspects that could be improved if we spent more time playtesting before releasing it. There's nothing we can do now 😭

Haha very nice. People have accidents just be looking in the window, imagine managing all of this 😂
I like the way the car stays behind the truck until we really try to pass it.
The graphics are very nice and the music fits the game perfectly!

Thank you so much! The game sure is a challenge xD
I totally agree with you that the damage with the explosion could somehow be improved.

Thank you for playing!
Yeah, we just thought it would be better to use arrow keys since we are people that like retro games and are kinda used to use the arrow keys xD
But at this point we would totally change to WASD if we could.

Thank you very much for playing!
Yeah I understand your point. Definitely something we need to improve in the future.
They are not carrots haha they are torpedos! The stairs with 3 turrets is pretty much about 70% of completion.

Nice little game. That siren guy really scared me. I tried to go past it hoping it would be an easter egg or something but at the end it wasn't.

The music is awesome!!! But is very high 😭 But it would definitely be better with SFX shots.
I found it really nice to play a couple of times and learn about the different ships as you go.

Haha I was betting everything on Fungus crossbow thing

Looks nice, will check it out.
Would love to also hear your opinion about our game:

Thank you very much for your feedback!

  • Yeah the explosion thing, you die because it didn't make sense to walk into the explosion so we decided to make it this way. I understand that it annoys most people but it was an intentional decision.
  • The game is very hard and probably 2% of the players have finished it 😅
  • I get you on the shield, but it was way too easy if you didn't have to hold it. We could probably adjust the timing with the jump better, but I totally understand your point.

Hahah finished it in "218.90000000006387" seconds 😎
Nice to see other speedrun games out here. It's the first project here I realized it was made using Haxe, that's great.
But I trully suggest that if you participate in future gamejams you should consider working with an artist though. It's hard to make everything on our own.

Yeah those metrics are great! We also have them in our game! It's a good way to make the game more competitive 💪

I really liked the game.
The only thing that annoies me a little is when I don't have enough resources to place a building, it could have some indication like a sound effect and making the green slots red or don't allow me to click on it at all.
But other than that is great! The art is very cool and cohesive, the audio too.
I spent way too much time upgrading and totally forgot about the rebelion thing 🤣

I like the art style. The music is very nice too.
I feel like there could be some simple more clear indication that the purple biscuits are infected or something. I also didn't understand correctly what is the purpose of them because it costs the same to make. Maybe they could be cheaper to incentivize to use them, otherwise I can just make the good ones forever and keep earning revenue, the game seems pretty linear in that regard. The poisining doesn't seem to be that much integrated in the progression of the game. You could probably go bankrupt by only making good biscuits, that way you need to poison some of them.
I don't know if you check the ration between good and poisoned biscuits you give to characters for the suspicion to increase (for example giving 1 posioned biscuit and 1 good biscuit is worse than giving 1 poisoned biscuit and 2 good biscuits), but would be nice to see.
The game could be more polished though. But the on my second day, something happened and now there are always 2 characters rogether and when I sell, I only sell to one and the other leaves without any biscuits. There is also someone already waiting as I bake the biscuits...

Very nice and unique game. It really stands out.
We would love to hear from you guys too!

Visuals are amazing, audio is amazing, game gameplay is very polished. Would be nice to see some puzzles or other mechanics apart from just dashing (might be just some personal preference) but I get it there is no time for everything 😭
