All of these games are awesome!! Who'd have thought you could make complete games with petscii graphics! Well done!!

I'll test it again when I'm co-working with my colleague in the next few weeks as I don't have a second controller... how about adding keyboard controls for a 2nd player?

Is it single player or 2 player as I the start button isn't lighting up to play it :/

Wicked, I know the game well. Downloading now =)

Awesome, glad to hear it! It's always close!

All good, the jam is just an excuse to get started, keep on rolling health comes first!

Do people just join game jams to share their games?

Anyone actually taking part in this or lurking on some ideas. I've had 2 submissions so far which were completely useless, one being some spam links and another just ripping the banner ninja and making some silly game with it. Both have been disqualified for being pretty 'bad' and less original than Boris Johnson's comebacks.

I need a gif to express my feelings here.

Great choice!!

You can push as much or as little as you like. Usually it's just similarities like the art style or view angle, setting etc. 20% to 80% similar I think works. 20% being you have very little the same.  Hope this helps!

I'd love to know what games people have picked (or is it a secret?)

The Jam starts on Friday, what perfect timing, a weekend of fun to get the ball rolling.

Here's a few tips on how to organize the Jam:

- Have your idea set / discuss with your team and get your itch page started!
- Have the artists come up with some 'concept art' how the game could look using their chosen art tools, this will help create a target 'Look Dev' that you are trying to create.
- Program the basics with placeholders, if it works without graphics, it will work with graphics!
- Research additional features, modern games hold the key to improving older games but you can add your twist!
- Create builds regularly that people can test and engage with, no point in some empty screenshots although blogs are cool.!
- Consider sound and sound effects early, they can add enjoyment especially when testing.
- Allocate 50% of the time to art and sound production in the second half, you should try to have 1 independent coder but if you are a lone wolf here, then focus on the harder things first, that way it only gets easier and you wont be stuck with a good looking broken game.
- Reach out to more people, other devs here on itch might be around to contribute at the right time.
- Keep your blog up to date, each day you work, perhaps throw in some cool stuff you've just done with a quick sentence. By the end of the Jam the blog will be full of great stuff!

Happy NINJAMMING!!

It's still on hold while I find time to learn C64 assembly, I want to make it great but wont come soon. How about some inside scoop to the source files to keep you interested: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1czstNoLaP5aeATbvLuQII1T1UbNfCMJl?usp=sha...

Awesome, nice modern touches and love the retro vibe too. Very arcade meets Game-boy or even Amstrad! Drop it!

The are overworked right now... sorry. I also want to teach myself how to code on C64!

Yes, the terms with itch purchases is commercial use as far as I know.

Thanks, I've enabled stripe payments now. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I made it a while back to help with making pixel art for C64 and Amiga fans, I enjoy using it from time to time still, even as the dev! Hope you like it too. I will improve it over time and Version 2 will begin after summer!

Yes, you can use them commercially

thanks, you can use in commercial games.

you can find them on CSDB now

It's not your standard 'drawing', more like pre-made stamps with the ability to make new stamps and alter their colour, then enable pixel shaders.

It's slow but we're still working on it, currently we've decided how we'll be storing and rendering the backgrounds, and character movements. Level design and layout in progress.

music is sooo nice

Thanks, I do have some plans to.

Since I've been doing more and more C64 artworks, I decided to host them right here on itch for all to use. I'll be adding to this collection fairly frequently!

Enjoy!

Great, thanks. I'll check it out for sure!

sh.

Thanks, I'll be working on KLA exporting in the next few weeks as I think it will make it great.

Thanks, C64 version is also matching very closely, so we should have a working test version of that soon too!
