Very well polished new game for Atari - congratulations!

Hi,

today I published my new combat flight simulator for real Atari Xl/XE 8bit computers requiring only 64kb RAM https://roeoender.itch.io/f-16-falcon-strike

First new 3d flight simulator for any kind of 8-bit computers since around 1990!

F-16 Falcon Strike

Project homepage with game instructions: https://webchrono.pl/F16FalconStrike

First version of this game I made around 2002 in x86 C/asm for Casio Graphing Calculator Algebra FX2!

Archival footage of this version can be found here:

Driven by nostalgia to old 8/16 bit combat flight simulators - like Fighter Pilot, Tomahawk, Microprose F-15 I/II/III, F-14 Fleet Defender, F19, F-117, Dogfight, Red Baro, EF2000  in 2023 I started creating from scratch version for 8bit Atari using excellent cross compiler Mads Pascal and Mads Assembler - It turned out that 8bit Atari is way slower than 16bit Casio calculator so I had to do great amount of optimizations to every part of game.

Atari version was exapnded with great amount of unique features and game modes:

  • 15 handcrafted missions with evolving plot in "Królewiec campaign"
  • Dynamic battlefield -in WARFARE game mode you take part in largescale warfare on procedurally generated battlefield - cities and depots spawn ground units that attack enemy to capture enemy cities, from runways start enemy fighters and bombers
  • All targets are 3d wireframe
  • Many weapons: cannon, unguided ballistic missiles, bombs, anti-radar Harm, Sidewinders, Amraams - guided missiles really guide on target and travel through 3d space - they are not simple sprites!
  • And many more -some listed at features page: https://webchrono.pl/F16FalconStrike/features.html

Some videos from earlier then the current (2.0.0) version of games can be found here:

With this game I wanted to pay homage to the golden era of 80/90's computer combat flight simulators - they got me interested in computers and set my career as a programmer and also helped realise my passion for flying as after many years I become sailplane pilot.

Regards,

Roeoender.
