Please do!

Thanks - I thought I had uploaded it, but clearly I'd not completed something. You should have the full version now.

Hey Hendrik - I’m working on those, but probably won’t have anything to show for them until after Metatopia next weekend.

Hey All!

First, if you've just joined, I'm really glad you're here (if you're tired of me saying that, you'll get even more tired as more people join).

Second, I found out today that Jennell Jaquays, groundbreaking scenario designer in Tabletop RPGs and level designer in video games, is in the hospital with Guillain-Barré syndrome. If you can spare any support (or have the spoons to share this), please do. Back in the 1970s, when most people thought Keep on the Borderlands was cutting-edge, Jennell was crafting melodramatic explorations scenarios that drew from sociology, politics, and archeology. If you love games with factions, relationships, and poltics, Jennell was a pioneer. Pretty much every strang and thread of game design today owes her a debt. Jennell came out as trans and lesbian after leaving RPGs and married another legend: video game designer Rebecca Heineman.

Finally, I'm really looking forward to what you all will do in this jam. I've talked a little bit about what I'm working on over on the jam Discord server, and I hope you'll feel free to post here or join us there to let us know what you're working on, what support you need, and what excited you about queeness and horror.

We got our first submission last week (also for Jex Thomas's Iron Country Autumn jam). I'm really looking forward to seeing what YOU do.

Richard

Here's a Discord link for the Queer Fear Jam community!

Yep - anything that’s done by the time the jam ends is fair to submit. Feel free to submit WIP and beta games, too.

I'm really glad you've joined up for my first-ever October-themed jam celebrating the connections between queer people and horror!

Whether it's cosmic, gothic, slasher, thriller, or giallo, I'm excited to see what you are working on, have worked on, and will be working on. Your projects don't need to be new to be part of the jam, and they don't need to be complete: existing work and WIP are both welcome.

I'll be setting up a Discord server over the weekend and will post an invite link for everyone when it's ready. For now, let me know if you have any questions!

Welcome!

Richard

Hey there - I'd suggest 3-6 players (including the GM). This is designed as a setting for an ongoing campaign using a variety of fantasy systems, but the scenario pack should take 3-4 hours to run through. Sorry that I didn't see the question until just now!

Hey, so sorry - I didn't see the question until just now!

There is not, but we're going to do a new version in the next year so I plan to add a map.

Hey - that’s an older version of the game, but I’ve set it so that link should work again. If you’d like this version, feel free to grab a community copy.

No - thanks for the reminder on this. I've got a demo kit I'm working on and will expand those to include both the full game and the Quickstart.

Definitely not 2 versions. Print is 160 (164 with cover). I’m on my phone right now, but I believe the PDF is 162 since the inside covers are blank and got deleted. 64 must be a typo.

Hey All!

Dunes & Disco's been extended to end on April 30!

Also, I just announced that the first Roseville Beach mystery book Dim All the Lights will be crowdfunding on July 18. You can follow the project on Kickstarter to get notified when it launches and sign up for announcements when we post new info about it. You can read more about what will be in today's newsletter

If you've got questions, drop into the Discord or let me know here. I'm really excited to see what everyone's working on!

Thank you!

yep - this should be the full version.

I've set up a Discord for jam participants: https://discord.gg/64gKFNnR42. I'll likely close the Discord down once the jam is over.

Good idea! I've created a server for the jam here: https://discord.gg/64gKFNnR42.

Nope - there's not a skills list. You can use the existing as inspiration, but my only guideline would be aiming for something fairly narrow (jumping or climbing rather than "Athlete").

Hey All! I'm really glad that you've joined me for the Dunes & Disco Jam. If you haven't already, go ahead and download the Boardwalks & Sorcery (and SRD and Creator Kit for Roseville Beach) — you can also get a copy on DriveThru.

I'd love to hear more about what you're working on, either here or on social media (you can use #Dunes-and-Disco, the jam hashtag, on Twitter, Dice.Camp/Mastodon, Tumblr, or pretty much anywhere else).

I'm also planning to participate in the jam, working on some materials that we didn't have room for in the book and that will likely end up in future releases. What about you?

Listening now! I'd love to know more about what y'all think. I've got a press kit coming out next weekend, and you should also feel free to download the press copies on the Itch page. Thank you!!

Thanks for letting me know.  I just tested and it should be working now. You won't be able to the edit the version you open (that would edit the version everyone sees). Just save a copy to your own Google Drive folders to edit it. Let me know how the game goes!

Thanks - that’s a good point. I’m going to set aside a little time to work on that in Jan.

It'd be really great to get Net Revenue on each project's analytics page (even if there's not a good way to factor in bundles). It's not uncommon for professional associations and other professional opportunities to want details on our net revenues, and some designers like to include this in their end-of-year wrap ups. While the information is in the details for each payout, it's a lot of work to have to go through several years of payouts to get the data.

An extreme reverse sale!

Thanks - I’ve just corrected it.

Thank you! That means a lot!

Thanks for letting me know! It's fixed.

Thank you! Big announcement coming tomorrow about print copies as well!

You can reach out to me at @rrookstudio on Twitter or else via email at rook
at r-rook.com.

Thank you! That sounds fantastic. Let me know if I can send you free copies of this game (they're pretty cheap to print) as well as free copies of the Sherwood quickstart.

Hey All! We just finished week 1 of jam with two entries in!

I wanted to check with everyone and see how you're doing, what ideas you're working on, and what resources or support you'd find helpful.

I'm working on a preview of the "Lands of Exile" - a 3k word section for my game My Chivalric Bromance about some regions where the characters might go on adventures. I'm going to keep the public version simple and plan to get it out sometime in the next week. What about y'all?

I've set one up! https://discord.gg/wuEHbUk3

Hey All!

I've created a jam Discord server. I'll keep it open through the jam. Please join us (this invite will work through Monday, September 5): https://discord.gg/wuEHbUk3

For anyone looking for licensing information about various game systems, I've created a directory of openly licensed games from mid-size, small, and indie publishers.  You can also check out the SRDs listed at Fari Games or see Kyle Tam's article from DiceBreaker.

Thanks! I looked at the site and discovered they're claiming some images are licensed that are explicitly in the public domain in most parts of the world, and they've blocked right-clicking to copy or download. How have you been using them? I'm glad to include them but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything about their site or functionality.

Sadly, no -- but if there's sufficient interest I could set one up.

I'm assembling some resources and assets (both commercial and free) for jam participants. Let me know if there's something I should add:

https://r-rook.click/queermedievalassets

Yep! Thanks for noting that. As long as they're within Itch's content guidelines (which could definitely be clearer), involve consenting adults, and fit the jam's themes, please include them.

Existing games are very welcome, as is starting work when it suits your process!

Just updated the PDF and Google Doc to use the heavier Gentium Book Basic typeface, which is what we've used in the zine and sample adventures.
