I kind of like it, even though it's a bit too repetitive for my tastes.
I was a bit surprised by all the stops here and there, though. I'm curious what the idea behind that was.
Nice job, anyway!

Thank you very much! :D
I actually wrote a little story while I was composing the song, like a cut scene in a video game, with camera movements, etc.
It was a first time for me doing that, but I'm quite happy with the result, I should say (it's pretty rare for me to be satisfied XD).
Thank you for noticing the stereo work, I had fun with that and I'm glad someone heard it :D
I thought about rhythmic variations as well, I tried a few things, but everything seemed "too much" to me.
I wanted to represent incertainty, but more as a safe world being distured without knowing what's happening. I think that the major to minor shift and the chromatic bits on the piano were enough to picture it, in my point of view.
Especially because I wanted a really sudden "in-the-face" transition after that, and I didn't want to make it too obvious, if you know what I mean.
Thank you very much for your feedback! :D
I don't know that much about Bach's work, so that's clearly a coincidence XD
But now that you point it out, I can tell, yes :P
Thank you very much for the compliment, I appreciate it a lot.
I've been composing for a long time, now. And I don't like "not knowing what I do", especially if it's sound good to me, if you know what I mean. So I'm practicing a lot and it pays off a bit. I'm quite happy with that.
And feedback like yours are also helping me a lot, so thank you very much, sincerely.
Wow, thank you! I love Studio Ghibli, so that's a huge compliment :D
The violin doesn't feel sheltered at all to me, but that might be because of the audio support I'm using. I only have headphones (good ones, but still only that), so I can't really compare on other audio supports. Except on my phone, but it's a crappy one, so that's pretty much the opposite in terms of quality XD
I'm glad you liked my work, and thank you very much for your comment! :D
And as I said to Apsistic, this is clearly one of the best compliment I've had, so thank you very much to you too! :D
Yeaaah, about the harp, I've heard it too late (thanks to a friend who pointed it out to me).
I'm not entirely familiar with the articulations and the playing in general of the classical instruments, and I got so lost in everything, all of the tracks, the layers, the harmonies, etc... That I forgot that my harp was constantly on max MIDI velocity x)
That's a mistake I won't make in the future for sure! :P
Thank you very much for your amazing feedback :D
This is one of the best compliment I've had, seriously. I didn't think about Ocarina of Time when I was writing (in the way that I wasn't purposely "writing in the style of"), but I'm a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, especially OoT, so that might explain a bit of the reason why :P
And Dark Souls, even though I never played it (I don't want to throw my keyboard out the window XD), has an amazing OST!
So thank you very much, sincerely! :D
I was clearly not expecting that at all.
I like it, but I struggle to get on with the kind of sharpy synth sound used for the melodies.
Sometimes, I was feeling too much a kind of instability. It often sounded improvised and it was a bit confusing here and there.
Other than that, that's a really nice approach, pretty different that all I've heard so far, that's interesting.
Thank you for sharing.
I really like the vibe!
The first part is simple enough to leave space to what's potentially happening on screen, but present enough to set the mood, that's a really nice balance.
The switch to the second part surprised me, but got me shaking my head pretty much instantly :P
The repetitiveness of the first part was not a problem for me, but in the second part, it was a bit too much (in my opinion, of course).
But I liked it a lot, well done.
Thank you for sharing your work :D
The idea is not bad in the first place. But the main (and massive, in my opinion) problem that I have with your composition, is the constant dissonance between the instruments. In the beginning, the harp is in major, everything around is in minor. Then it feels like a mix between major, minor, and chromatic randomness. It's unfortunately a bit hard to listen to because of that.
If it's done on purpose, then it's simply not my style and it's fine.
If it's not done on purpose, then I really suggest you going in the basics of music theory (scales, chords, harmonies, etc).
But don't give up! It's just a matter of learning, pretty much anyone can do it. It just needs time, patience and work.
I really like your work, it sounds so great. I was clearly into it while listening.
The FX in the beginning of the last track took me a bit out of the vibe, though.
Massive preference for "Slay The Rot", by the way (even though the end of Rotmother’s Requiem is reaaaaally nice). I could picture myself fighting for the entire song, haha. I would have prefered a bit more realistic choir VST, though.
But this track is awesome! And your entire OST is, for sure :D
It sounds good, there's a peace feeling in it, it fits the theme and everything (birds are helping for sure).
But it's definitely too repetitive for me.
It's a bit frustrating actually, because it sounds nice and I was really waiting for a change, another musical theme, another chord progression, anything.
So yeah, nice but "not enough" in my opinion.
Keep up the good work, though. The balance is nice, the mixing too, the choice of instruments is great, etc... So yeah, don't give up :D
It's weird. I like the vibe, and I like the kind of environment it's putting me in, but I'm really confused by the fact that I have no idea where the track is leading me to. There's clearly a progression, it doesn't just feel like a background song, but I don't get what it's trying to tell me.
Nice vibe for the theme, anyway. Kind of a mix with retro water levels, SNES time, I like it.
Well done!
That's a good start, but it lacks a few things, in my opinion (and I insist, it's just my opinion).
- First, more important changes would be nice. It's the main "problem" that I have, it's quite repetitive.
The idea of having a loop of 4 or 8 bars and adding a layer at the beginning of everyloop is too predictable and so a bit "boring" at some point, for the listener. Your theme is not bad, but it's repeated too much. Same about the chord progression.
- I could hear the percussive sounds a bit in the middle, and the rest on the right, nothing on the left. The stereo is really important, and (to me) especially when it comes to percussions. Having the "kick" in the right ear all the time and nothing to balance it on the left ear was not really pleasant, to be honest.
- A wider variety of instruments would have been good. I think piano and organ on the same range, when there's not that much else, is a bit too much.
As said, it's not bad, but a bit more work on the balance (stereo, volume) and on theme changes would have been good.
Don't give up, though! We all learn everyday :D
I like the vibe of your composition, but I don't feel "the forest" into it, unfortunately.
It might not be my mood, or simply not the way I feel/see the things, of course.
Nice usage of 5/4 though. Unexpected, but it sounds nice. I like it a lot.
The tempo drop at 1:53 caught me off guard, it took me a second listen to get ok with it, to be honest XD But that's nice, and that fits in the end.
Like I said, it sounds good, I like most of it, but I don't think it fits the theme.
An EastWest user, yeahhh <3
I definitely can recognize some of the instruments you used, haha.
It sounds really good, I like the vibe and the balance between the instruments you used.
Nice chord progressions as well, a classic, but that always works, especially for this kind of vibes.
A bit surprised by the transition at 2:27~ though, the stop of the instruments was a bit sudden in my opinion (but that's a matter of taste, of course).
Anyway, I liked your composition a lot. And I also kind of recognize myself in the exploration of video game music. I started it recently too, and that's so much fun! :D
The composition is nice and the result sounds pretty good.
I would have liked a little more attention on the balance of the volumes, though. Sometimes, I can hear some instruments too much, and sometimes not enough.
Also the snare at the end of "What the forest holds at night" sounds really digital, unfortunately.
But good work, anyway! Well done :D
In my opinion, Cascade has a much more interesting ambiance (Shining Day is great too, don't get me wrong :P).
Working on the balance/presence of the instruments could help a bit, I think. The bass, for example, is sometimes taking a lot of space in the mix. It can be noticed especially when it stops. But maybe it's also about my headphones.
Great stuff anyway, interesting to listen to. Good work :D
Thank you very much for your comment and for taking the time to listen to my work :D
I'm really happy you appreciated it.
I kind of agree with you about the pizzicato, it's pretty hard to get it right without having a sense of "too much". I was pretty worried most of the time when I was listening to it, to be honest XD
About the outro, the song has a particular meaning for me, so a fade-out or a loop was out of the question, simply. Happy you liked it too :D
And thank you very much again :D
