Thank you! This was more inspired by Dune than Journey, but I definitely see the resemblance. Yeah the woman was a billboard sprite and there were some glitches when viewed from certain angles lol. The glass breaking was another billboard sprite I just placed at the sky, which turned out pretty cool.

Thanks for playing! I enjoyed watching your video!

Thank you! I find short games more fun to make than long games, so I definitely will make more.

Quite the suspenseful game! The entire time I was wondering what is really going on around the lake since Gil seems to be hiding things from Finn and Finn seems to be tripping balls lol. I really like the pixel art aesthetic of the game and the fishing minigame is quite fun.

Some comments:

  • I was unable to finish the game since I got stuck on the part when the water current makes a box around the fish. My hook would just keep going round and round the fish due to the current, and no matter how much I tried to maneuver the hook, I couldn't get inside the box.
  • I liked the CRT filter, but I feel like the image distortion was a little too strong. I felt a little dizzy when walking for an extended period of time. Perhaps an option to turn off or adjust the strength of the filter would be good?
  • I feel like some background music would be good—I wanna listen to some music while fishing! I know during the spooky parts there is some background sound, but the rest of the game felt a little barren without any background music. What if the normal parts had background music, then when spooky stuff happens it's silent instead? Could be unsettling.

I think this is a great proof of concept for the prototype. I enjoy the mystery of trying to find out what's going on with this anomalous lake. Looking forward to a complete version!

Congrats on getting 2nd place! I LOVED the whacky aesthetic of this game and found it super enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing your other projects!

Congrats on getting first place!! This was an awesome game made by a great team. Would definitely make for a sick portfolio piece ngl

Thanks for the feedback and the peephole bug report! Yes, I feel like after getting feedback that the QTE is a little too difficult. I don't think I can update things while jam voting is still happening, but I'll have to keep that in mind.

I'm glad the storytelling resonated. I really wanted the protagonist to appear crazy at first, but is actually staying inside for good reason, so I'm happy that was communicated.

Thanks for the feedback!

Very fun! The art style is also quite unique and I love the sense of humor in this game. The gameplay loop is also quite entertaining. My only feedback would be to give some sort of checkpoint system, as being sent all the way back to the beginning after dying didn't feel nice. Of course, that may be a skill issue on my part lol. The shopkeeper guy is also really cool.

Great job!

Very spooky! I admit that I was kinda stuck at the very beginning since I didn't know what I was supposed to take pictures of. I just knew that if I took pictures of certain things I would get a sound cue. I assume I was supposed to follow the light trail that appeared in some of the pictures?

Anyways, I eventually got to the part where the floor started filling up with water and that was my favorite part. It felt very tense getting chased by the ghost guy while trying to move forward. Actually I got jumpscared a few times by the ghost!

I think y'all nailed the atmosphere. My only feedback would be to make it a little more clear what the player is supposed to take pictures of, since I was randomly taking pictures of anything that looked interesting. But overall this was spooky and enjoyable!

That was super fun! This game had a very nostalgic feel like those old space shooters from way back when. I'm impressed at the variety of game modes, maps, and ships that you managed to make for this jam.

This definitely feels like a fun, complete game with all the different game modes and ship options. It definitely gives off arcade vibes and feels like those classic flash games from years ago. Great job!

This game is absolutely incredible and I really hope you guys win the jam. The presentation is fantastic, and the gritty, industrial desert vibe was done really well. The movement felt super satisfying, and I love all the different bot types.

I did manage to climb up different walls I was probably not supposed to by spamming jump at certain angles and positions. But I felt big brain doing that so it was great.

Anyways, excellent work! I can tell lots of people put a lot of work into this and it shows :)

Thanks for commenting! I really wanted to convey a feeling of tension so I'm happy to hear it kept you on the edge of your seat haha

Thank you! The jumpscare part is interesting since there's actually no scripted jumpscares. The monster AI just slowly walks to you from predetermined spawn points, but it makes for great jumpscares when you turn around and see it right next to you.

Thanks for the comment! I had some trouble balancing the incremental and horror parts of the game but I'm glad it worked out :)

This was awesome! I loved the visuals and the gameplay loop was pretty fun too. It didn't take too long to get into a rhythm of shooting down threats, mining some coin, doing the sound thingy, then cranking the generator. It reminded me a bit of Iron Lung, and I really liked the sound design.

If I had to give some feedback, it's that I wasn't sure how much power the generator had. I know there was the green light that blinked, but it would be cool if there was some other indication as to how much power there was, so I wasn't mindlessly cranking. Maybe different colors of light for how much power is left? Not knowing exactly how much power there was added to the tension though, so maybe that was a deliberate design decision.

Anyways, excellent work!

Really enjoyed your playthrough on Twitch! It's super valuable feedback watching someone play the game live , so I really appreciate you streaming the games in this jam. The critiques are very valid and I'll have to take them into consideration for next time!

I played through the game and ended up at the screen when it faded to black and there was text and a smile at the bottom. Overall, I think the gloomy atmosphere was done well! The dark environment and music worked well together.

The game had room for polish but you did mention not finishing the game so that's fine. I think what you had now could definitely be expanded into a full game if you gave it more time.

Anyhow, kudos for submitting the game even if it was incomplete. Making games is SUPER tough, so even just submitting a work in progress is still a great thing!

Those animals are SUPER dangerous. I kept getting killed over and over again. Eventually I just tried to avoid fights as much as possible but that's kind of hard since there are some narrow corridors that makes juking the animals very tough. Kind of reminded me of Fear and Hunger, and because of the difficulty I was unable to finish :(

I really like the art, atmosphere, and music though! I think if the fights were less dangerous or there was more room to avoid the enemies in the overworld it'd feel better. I wasn't sure if there was a way to heal at all, so if my HP was low I was good as dead. Again, this is just a difficulty scaling thing, but I think the core game itself was fun and fit the theme well!

Hey I wasn't able to play the game since I get an error when I try extracting the file? Might just be an issue with my computer, but I wanted to let you know!

I got up all the way to the part where you are trapped in a room and the music changes. I got killed when a quantum ghost spawned right on top on me since I was in a corner of the room :(

Overall I really like the core gameplay loop of firing the orbs and teleporting to them. Reminds me a lot of Portal! There were some places that could be polished up a bit though. For example, sometimes I would be unable to walk through doors unless I press E, wait until the door is fully open, then walk through. If I try walking and pressing E at the same time I'd get stuck. Also, I wasn't sure if the robot guys were supposed to kill me since they'd walk up to me and just kinda stand there?

The graphics were great and the atmosphere of a gloomy spaceship was done well! I also liked the soundtracks you used.

Dune was definitely an inspiration for this one! Thanks for playing!

Thanks for playing! The idea of the player getting weaker felt like a great way to implement the jam's theme, so I'm glad you liked it.

Glad you didn't spill your tea. Thanks for playing!

I gotta say, if breakups IRL were managed via card games they'd be much more interesting. Imagine settling things over a game of UNO.

I really liked this game! I kept drawing the verdict card, but that's probably a skill issue on my part. I absolutely adored the art as well! My only feedback is that it'd be nice to give a skip dialogue button. Since I kept losing I kept having to go through the same dialogue again hahaha

Fun little game! I wasn't able to get big scores since my reflexes aren't the best, but I still had fun. The sound effects were extremely satisfying and felt like ASMR as I was clicking the buttons lol

I wasn't able to complete the game because I somehow got stuck on the journal entry screen :(

What happened what that I read all the journal entries, but I wanted to read them again. However, opening a journal entry after having read all of them made the exit button disappear somehow, so I was stuck on the journal entry screen. Tried pressing escape and clicking everywhere but I was unfortunately soft locked.

Otherwise, I really liked the environmental and narrative design of the game! The idea of a mysterious ship reappearing is always intriguing. My only comment about the environment is that I was able to walk through walls?

Anyways, just needs a bit of polishing but I liked the core gameplay loop of doing puzzles and discovering what happened on the mysterious ship!

You better believe I played all the way to the end because that was really fun! It felt a lot like Viscera Cleanup Detail and Power Washing Simulator and I loved it. Heck, if it wasn't for the spooky eyes and spooky ambience I'd feel downright cozy.

Great graphics, and loved the sound effects. There were also a bunch of little things I appreciated, like the custom loading screen and elevator music.

I guess my only feedback is that the game window in the browser page felt massive. Like, it took up my entire screen! Also I was able to see my mouse while in the first person camera; unfortunately, this meant if my mouse hit the border of my screen I wouldn't be able to turn in that direction anymore.

Overall though, I really enjoyed this!

Thank you for playing! I typically try to add tension/suspense to my games so I'm glad to hear that.

That's a really really good point about accessibility actually. I never thought about people playing it without sound because I myself always play games with sound. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for playing! Appreciate the kind words.

Thank you so much! I really enjoy short, punchy narratives so love making twists haha

Funny you mentioned Minecraft because the 3d modelling software I used (Blockbench) is typically used to make Minecraft mods . Thanks for playing!

Dune was totally an inspiration! I based the monster off the sandworms from Dune :)

Thanks for the comment! I put a lot of effort into the sound design, so I'm glad you liked it. Yeah it's pretty entertaining to be sent flying by the monster lol

Thanks for playing! Yeah, the monster is actually coded to become harder to dodge after each attack, so that's why it felt hard haha

I love the idea of a time eating god and think you made great use of the decay theme! At first I was wondering how I would possibly eat all the time in the planets, then I unlocked the unstoppable upgrade lol.

The story parts were well written too, and helped emphasize the dark, hopeless atmosphere in the game.

I felt like the game could've used more sound effects though. Maybe sound effects when you're clicking buttons, or sound effects while devouring the planets? It'd be really cool to have some sort of feed sound while devouring!

I like the retro art style of the game! It genuinely unsettled me a little bit when I saw the full art of the characters with their faces. They looked a little creepy and the black and white art was great for this type of game.

It did feel a little short and left me hoping for more haha. I enjoyed this!

I really like the atmosphere of the game! Definitely made me feel on edge. Also, the constant breathing of the monster was a nice way to help the player keep track of it and also added to the suspense.

I wasn't able to complete the game since I kept getting killed :(

It felt like getting spotted by the monster means you are instantly dead, since it always follows you afterwards and you eventually run out of sprint stamina . I tried to break line of sight and turn corners, but I couldn't avoid the monster. It also took me a while to figure out that "F" turned on the flashlight, so I was stumbling around in the dark haha.

But overall, I really love the atmosphere and sound design of the game!

Thanks for the feedback, and I can see the Journey comparison! That's a good point about art style consistency and I'll have to improve that for next time.

"What are you gonna do? Shoot me?"

*Gets shot*

I really liked the aesthetic of the game! The environment and 3d models looked great. I just wish the game was a little longer since I was pretty invested in the story haha.
