Thanks. I've just been playing it for a while, and I didn't get a lockup or the shooting problem.
My PET is standard apart from I load from an SD2PET and I added a reset button.
Nice :-)
Would it be possible to allow an option for the fire key to be '5' on the keypad? I think that would make it much easier to control.
Maybe I should get one of the joystick adapters. I'm terrible at controlling games with keys.
edit: Actually, I've just realised you can get diagonals by pressing two of the other directions, so I can use one hand with my fingers on 8,6,4,2 and my left with space. That's much easier.
Good work! It runs great on my 040. No change in framerate from what I can tell during the main racing part. It just slows a bit when it takes control at the end and putting my name in is quite slow and difficult.
Having the music and sound at once it great, and the controls work well with a normal joystick with one button, though I'd personally prefer an option for up to accelerate and fire to change gear.
I'm looking forward to how this progresses.
Just trying it out on my A1200/040. I'm getting an average of about 16FPS, which is okay. It sometimes gets to 25, and sometimes to 12.
The main thing that's missing (which I'm quite surprised by) is joystick control. Could an option be added for a 1 button joystick, since this is what 100% of people with Amigas will have? Up to accelerate, down to brake, fire to change gear.
At the moment I can't brake, so some corners I just crash on.
Thanks for making this. I've wanted this utility since 2013 when I drew a loading picture for Paradroid.
A few bugs: "Scroll X position" should be "Scroll Y position". You say Y in the PDF.
I sometimes get a corrupt character in the scroll, though I always get a glitch at the end and lose the first character when it loops.
And some suggestions:
The flashing might look better if it never went black (maybe an option?), or let us edit the colours it cycles through.
More characters in the scroll would be good (I used every last one).
It would be good to be able to load in a previously saved pic with scroller, so it could read in the text and settings so you could make a change instead of doing it all again.
Now I just have to find somewhere to send my version with loading picture and "readme" scroller.
That's a good improvement :-) Thanks for the update.
I'm still getting score problems, though. I've uploaded a temporary unlisted video so you can see it (see the video description for the examples):
Also, I don't think I've ever had a fare to the Hospital, even though it's a named place on the map.
When you lose your last life it says "You taxi medallion has been", then cuts off to show your the game over screen before finishing the sentence.
Not bad, but seems like the original programmer didn't finish it. You only get score for moving, and getting to the top (any part) just starts another frog and gives you an extra life. I quickly got 9 lives and just kept going until I got bored.
It's a shame, as it's actually mostly there. It just needed finishing off. At least you got it working on more models.
It runs well on my PET 4032. A few comments so far:
There is an invisible wall left of TPUG that stops you going up/down.
With messages off, it doesn't tell you to press Space to continue when you lose a car.
A personal thing, but assigning the keys is in a strange order. The first go I expected it to be up, down, left, right, and ended up with my keys all wrong. I should have read it and I'd have seen it was up, right, down, left.
It mentions smoke, but I couldn't find any.
It could do with a bit of sound, even if it's just a beep when you collect people, drop them off, or crash.
The score seems to go wrong when you finish a level. I had 960, then when I started the next one I had 110.
The destination said "6)7EB)8EC)" when I picked up a fare (it ended up being Slay Radio).
It's odd that your score goes up the longer you take (though I suppose that's how Taxis work), but I suppose you have to decide if you want to risk running out of fuel. I couldn't find a petrol station, so I assume you have to try to finish it going really slowly once you run out.
I started to capture some video for YouTube, but if you think you'll fix the invisible wall, and maybe add some sound soon then I'll wait and put up the improved version.
