That was a lot of fun to play. I didn't play through all the missions but I'll probably get round to that tomorrow. The visuals and music are great. The controls work well too.
The only improvement that I can recommend is to do with melee combat. It doesn't feel very fluid to have to backpedal and press left alt to perform a melee attack. It'd probably be a better idea to have it tied to the left mouse button (when not carrying a gun). That way the player can hit the tab key to easily switch between melee and gunplay modes.
Again, it's a lot of fun to play and you've done an awesome job!

Summary
Gerel: Against The Corvus Empire is a 2d pixel art platformer with metroidvania elements.
I've been developing it over the past 5 months in Unreal Engine 4 using placeholder assets that were either purchased online, free or made myself. They serve the purpose of demonstrating that a viable demo can be built with the systems and features that have been designed and implemented. I've just entered the second phase of development that focuses on expanding features and functionality as well as completely overhauling all the graphics, sound, ui and music and replacing them with custom content.
Overall Game Premise
Our story takes place in the land of Muur, a once proud and accomplished civilization that was invaded by the Corvus Empire. Now, many generations later, the descendants of the survivors eke out a meagre existence on the outskirts of the ruins of their once-great capital.
You play as Gerel, an inhabitant of the land of Muur. Left to raise your children alone after your husband was killed at the hands of the Corvus guards who raided your little homestead. One day after foraging for food, you return home to find that your children are missing.
On your journey to find them you will explore the land of Muur, meet it's inhabitants, brave its dangers and fight against the Corvus Empire.
