That's the good thing about a game jam environment I suppose. It is a great place to learn what pitfalls to avoid in a more extreme scenario.

Once the player figures out what to do, the game is highly addictive. The controls are intuitive, the physics are fun to toy with, and the game looks excellent. What it could do with is some audio and an explanation of what the controls do.

The game has a very fun physics engine and I like the loop on paper. Where it faulters is a lack of explanation for the controls and the camera is quite buggy in its current state. I don't know if it's a result of the game being a proof of concept, but the Settings menu seems to cause a crash.

The game looks and sounds great, and the loop is very compelling. However, the controls are a little too precise, and it isn't clear how you are meant to get past some of the obstacles. The barriers with the red and green lights, in particular, have quite the learning curve.

btw, I thought the Super Metroid reference with the death animation was neat.

Close to perfect. The gameplay loop is a ton of fun, with the silly police and the upgrade system serving as creative bottlenecks. The UI is also well presented as it provides the player with everything they need without interrupting gameplay. The only problems are a lack of audio and no option to press a key over clicking.

This game has a lot of potential. The premise is creative, the game is well presented, and the sound effects in the background are suitably Kafkaesque. However, I think the game's humour can try a little too hard, the loop isn't well explained, and you are stuck at the "arrested" screen without a method of returning to the main menu if you lose.

The game looks and sounds great. The core gameplay loop is entertaining, but it is not the most well explained. Some notable issues include no cutscene skip, which is annoying when making multiple attempts, the starting angle can make the player's objective confusing, and I can't seem to progress past the second cutscene.

The game looks great and it has a very unique take on the theme. In particular, I love it is used to get players to think outside of the box with combat. The game could probably use better collision and the boss is underwhelming.

The game looks good, has a neat concept, and the sound effects are very crunchy. The right click command is also fun to use. However, ammo needs to be shown on the HUD to indicate when I can reload, and enemies seem to cling to the player.

I love how this game applied the theme. However, it could have done with some sound effects and a way of seeing where you are going to aim the frisbee.

The music and graphics of the game are top notch. However, the camera should have the player character centered. In its current state, there are far too many cheap deaths.

The premise is a very creative use of the theme and I oddly loved the banal nature of web making procedure. However, the game could have used some music and the tutorial is too focused on humour as opposed to explaining the mechanics.

Is there a reason why there is no game available?

A very fun RPG-style take on roulette. The feeling of making your character a well oiled machine is very satisfying, even if Ballenave makes me want to pull my hair out. The character designs look great, though there are some notable graphical bugs with the text in places. The game could also have done with louder music. While I understand some concerns that the game has a lot to keep track of, there are tutorials and tooltips available to explain the mechanics.

Had an absolute blast with it. The game looks and sounds brilliant. The gameplay loop is simple, yet highly addictive. If this was available in my school days, I wouldn't have gotten any work done. I was also very impressed at how fresh the concept stayed between each level. If I had to nitpick, it's that the level select screen is a little unintuitive.

Looks and sounds excellent. The sound effects have plenty of bite to them to get you to keep playing. However, while the take on the spinning theme is creative, I found the input for it buggy and the barrage of enemies discourages experimentation.

Too addictive for its own good. The concept is simple, yet everything comes together perfectly.

The concept of this game alone has me very intrigued. In terms of the light/darkness theme, I would never have thought to have made both elements malicious in their own ways. I'd love to see this come into fruition.

If you wanted this to teach programming, it succeeds with flying colours. It works as intended, is fun to use and I feel genuinely smarter from using this.

Open Jam 2022 community · Created a new topic Project Ohros

Hello everyone.

I am OliverStuP. The project I am working on alongside AlisdairCP is known as Project Ohros. It is a 2D action-adventure game using a similar format to the older Legend of Zelda games. For this purpose, we feel that the Solarus engine is the most suitable. This is both in terms of its interface dedicated to the design of our chosen genre and our current experience with C++.  The current graphics used are character sprites generated by the Universal LPC Spritesheet Generator and tilesets provided through OpenGameArt.

The game is a 2D action-adventure style game where you control a witch named Lila. She has crash landed in a dirty, futuristic city named Araphel. As magic is outlawed, she has to escape so she can reach the outside world known as Ohros. Her skill set involves both melee and magic through the use of her staff. Her spells will be utilised through both combat and adventure segments.

You can keep up to date with the project through the repo.
