I agree with some comments that the music is the obvious weak link. I didn't even want to cut it because your jump and power-up SFX are quite cool, but it got on my nerves at some point xD
However, the rest of the game is really enjoyable to play. I like the controls, especially that weird long dash. The gameplay fits the theme while using classic metroidvania elements, and you made it work admirably. Well done!
Congrats on your first jam, I really enjoyed your game. Clever design, incentive to try again despite failing a bunch of times.
The audio gets a little annoying, since there are only 2-3 sfx (move and power-ups basically?), maybe it'd be worth finding more satisfying sounds to the ear :D
Well done though, I'd play more levels of your game and have fun.
I enjoyed your game a lot, very simple mechanics and yet very effective! The boss design is clever without being unnecessarily punishing, I wouldn't mind playing a version with a bit more bosses, but as someone else said in the comments, it's already quite huge for a jam game.
One improvement would be to add a sound + visual cue when your character loses health. The first time I got hit by a laser, my guy just stood there like a chad. That felt a bit off.
The character's noodle arms are cute too!
