Yes! If you can turn this into something similar to An Arcade Full of Cats and that series, this has a lot of potential! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2368470/An_Arcade_Full_of_Cats/

Ahhh. Zooming does reveal that bug. Unfortunately, I think that the action of zooming to see behind something is not intuitive to the player. In my mind, the foreground would only become larger when I zoom in, so I would expect anything behind it to become obscured.
I don't think that hiding bugs behind objects is a bad idea, but revealing something behind an object when zooming IN just doesn't feel right.
Again! Well done. This could easily be a successful game with more levels and play testing!
I really loved this style and the game itself. The vibes were PERFECT! I did have trouble finding a bug because I went full screen on a Mac and the aspect ratio made it appear off screen. The last bug was completely hidden no matter what angle I chose. The sniff mechanic helped show where it should have been, but I had to randomly click in the area until it "popped". It was the bug behind a branch of the main tree in the scene.
I really liked this idea and the feel of everything. I do feel that it was difficult to get enough time and deal enough damage without a fire rate upgrade. The upgrade might be in the game, but I never lasted long enough to see it in my four plays.
My recommendations:
- Make sure that players can tell when they are hit. I knew when a ship was hit, but it wasn't always obvious when it was my ship or an enemy ship because the sound effects all sounded the same. Some visual feedback like a blinking ship might help.
- Increase the upgrade rate in the game. Especially for a short competition like this, it is good to get people going early and power them up with fun mechanics before they move on. Or, fudge the randomness on the upgrades to guarantee they get something more useful for early gameplay.
- I am sorry you didn't get to do music. But this type of game would really benefit from even some royalty free music.
I really enjoyed the game. I felt like the difficulty of the enemies rose faster than my power did, but I loved the design and idea.
Well done!
An excellent start to a fun little game.
I think the communication of what the player is meant to do can be handled a bit better, but I really enjoyed the controls and simplicity of the tasks.
Trying to go and fetch Red when I needed him to watch me was a bit tedious, but not too bad. I didn't quite understand the fail state where I was caught "still" doing something.
With the cone of vision from the Boss, I expected that I was supposed to be avoiding it, initially. Maybe there can be tasks that you are not meant to be doing and you need to complete those, too while he isn't looking.
I didn't really know what I was supposed to do in this game. I appreciate that it's a first for you, so try adding some story or explanation for what the goal is and what the player is supposed to accomplish. Being unable to move the character diagonally when the world is arranged isometrically and at an angle really messed with being able to move through the pews.
Well done for a first game. I can seethe effort that went into it. If you keep up the work, I'm sure something like this could be quite nice to play.
Really well animated and eased. Loved the fluidity of everything.
I think the only critique I had was trying to grab any fast-moving critters. If I had the ability to pause time or slow time, that would make things much easier. Maybe when you hover over a running emoji, time can slow for a bit.
Really well executed and beautiful.
That's an excellent point. It is a bit harsh and repetitive if you aren't able to spot the difference.
I made the assumption that you would only hear it once in a while since choosing wrong sets you so far back. I also failed to make the setback part obvious, so perhaps people are choosing items randomly until they figure out the mechanic.
Thanks for trying it out and leaving feedback!
Thanks for trying it out!
I meant to have a bit of mystery to the game, but it seems that for a game Jam, a bit more explanation is appreciated.
I've added a blurb to the description to help understand the goal, as it seems a few people are lost at first.
Thanks again for leaving a comment! They're always appreciated.
An excellent little town builder!
I didn't quite understand the strategy initially, but it really came together when new buildings were unlocked.
Perhaps, if you continue to develop this game, allow players to look ahead at buildings they haven't unlocked yet? Just to see what they do so that they can plan.
Awesome idea, awesome music and sound effects. Well done!
The music is excellent. The sound effects are excellent. The gameplay loop is confusing. I like the idea and I understand filling in what you just saw. Perhaps it would work better if the game paused to "quiz" the player before it continued and executed the player's input.
Good job getting a good game out into the world!
