Hi there,  I just rated your game and thought I'd leave a comment here :) I absolutely love the character designs, they are soo cute! Really enjoy playing, and it gave me a great challenge trying to figure out the culprit. I did want to share a few small quality-of-life thoughts and a potential bug I noticed during my playthrough:

  • Dialogue UI: It would be super helpful to have the character's name at the top of the dialogue box so it's always clear exactly who is speaking.
  • Detective Notepad: A built-in notes feature where players can keep track of found information, key evidence, and cross-check suspicions would be a fantastic addition to the mystery vibe.
  • Charlie's Journal: Adding a visible "Close" button to the journal would be great! It took me a little while to figure out how to close it on my own.
  • Menu Interaction (Possible Bug?): When the clues menu or inventory is open in the Main Lobby, I can't click to investigate the rooms. I have to press 'Tab' to close the menu first before I can interact with the environment again.

Aside from those minor nitpicks, this is a wonderfully put-together mystery. Fantastic job on this!

For our game  Sub Sonar, since we're currently working on a post-jam update, we'd be thrilled if you could give us your in-depth feedback when you have the time!

Here is our game if you would like to check out - it's somewhere between tower defense/resource management: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

I tried it with another person, we found that it works better on a PC than a laptop - the one on a laptop keeps zooming in and out so it was quite distracting at first (not sure if it was a bug or we were using the mousepad wrongly). But we learned to get a hold of it and it was fun to play. Definitely would work better for bigger groups. Overall great job!

Wow massive work on the art for sure - it feels like I was reading a visual novel. I think it would be nice to make the passage a bit bigger/easier to consume in chunks. Overall you guys are great storytellers  :)

I reached 46 on the first try! The game is so well polished and has an addicting gameloop to it. Truly impressive work and interesting take on the theme

We're currently working on a post-jam update, so any critical comments would be a massive help! Feel free to give our game a try when you have time  Sub Sonar
Edit:
Coming back after playing yours, I must say it's impressive how good the game is for a 1-week project!

Thanks again for checking it out! We're glad you enjoyed it. Best of luck to you too :)

I absolutely love digging into game lore, and your development story completely captivated me! The tomb-raider/debt-collector premise is truly unique, especially how you tied the core mechanics directly into the narrative of being an unwitting guinea pig. It’s truly clever.

Your thought process actually mirrored ours a lot. Like you, we initially considered making an unfair platformer to "trick" the player, but it felt a bit too safe and not quite exciting enough. We spent our entire first day just brainstorming. We flirted with a "sheep and wolves" concept but got stuck on making the mechanics actually fun. Eventually, the theme "Trust no one" led us to think about Papers, Please. We quickly realized that matching that scope in a week was impossible, but it sparked our core mechanic: what if, instead of checking documents, you were a scanner checking machines?

That led to researching and designing a sonar system. Our first prototype had players checking which submarines were safe to let into a base. The problem? Differentiating them by images or electromagnetic waves was too easy and just wasn't very fun. So, we flipped the script: instead of choosing trustworthy targets, the game defaults to treating everyone as an enemy. Players then have to earn upgrades to literally "learn to trust."

I completely related to your struggles with the art! We aren't brilliant artists either (though for what it's worth, I think your game's visuals turned out great despite the time crunch!). To keep the scope manageable, we designed the game to rely on minimal graphics without sacrificing the atmosphere, which meant I spent a huge chunk of the jam learning pixel art and other UI stuff on the fly.

I'm so glad we both managed to survive the week and get our projects across the finish line. That’s a brief look into the lore of Sub Sonar. We're currently working on a post-jam update, and given how thoughtfully you designed your own gameplay loop, getting your analytical feedback would be a massive help. I'd be thrilled if you gave it a try when you have the time. Thanks for sharing your story, and for reading mine!

Would really appreciate it if you have time to check our game! We're working on a post-jam update, and getting your analytical feedback would be a huge help https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

I’ve been reading through your reviews, and the level of detail you provide truly stands out. It takes a lot of effort to properly evaluate a game from both the player's and developer's point of view, and you do it incredibly well. Your own puzzle game is great too -  the art style is so unique, and I see the potential of expanding it further. Since you really get what makes a game tick, I hope to get your thoughts on our project. We're planning a post-jam build, and your specific insights would be very appreciated! https://sa1zzz.itch.io/sub-sonar

Hi there, I rated and left a comment - congrats on finishing the game, it's impressive that you did all of this on your own! Would really appreciate it if you checked out ours too, and do let me know the link to your YouTube :)

Fun game! I used to play BS  with my friends so this definitely reminds me of that XD Overall game is well polished, and I really like that the rules are always displayed to help out forgetful people like me

Thanks for playing, glad you got into the flow and had fun! It’s definitely easy to lose track of the subs. We tried to help with that by making the Sub and Upgrade buttons pulse when they are ready, and you can also leave the Sub panel open the entire time you play. Great catch on the 1000+ resource counter btw - we saw that overlap during playtest but ran out of time to patch it. We'll get it fixed in the next update :)

I wish itch had honourable mentions for those who have rated the most like you XD I really need to up my rating game! Btw, we would really appreciate it if you could check out ours too https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Just did! Thanks again for checking us out :)

I must say your walkthrough video helps me a lot in solving the final puzzle XD Fun and overall really polished gameplay. Kudos to the team!

Would love to hear your thoughts about our game, please feel free to give it a try, I'll visit yours too! https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

I like your humour! It's fun and didn't take a long time to learn how to play.

Congrats on your first jam! Would really appreciate it if you could take a look at our game  https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Thanks for playing and for the helpful feedback. To answer your question, the UPGRADES button will pulse whenever an upgrade is ready to buy, and the same indicator happens when the next SUB is ready. Great catch regarding pausing to read the upgrades, though! You can press ESC to pause right now, but you're right that it doesn't let you open the upgrade menu. We'll definitely get that fixed in the next update :)

Just rated! After 4 levels, I think the overall gameplay was really smooth - one thing I would suggest is to change the colour of the spikes so they stand out a bit more, right now they kinda blend in with the ground. Other than that, great job :) Would appreciate it if you could check out our game too: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Feel free to give us a try, would love to hear your feedback! https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Our game is somewhere between tower defense/resource management SubSonar

Just left a rating - I used to play a lot of Among Us, so your game’s vibe was instantly right up my alley. I was thinking it might be a bit easier to manage if the task assignments were slowed down a bit, and maybe having an option to cancel an assigned task could be handy. But honestly, you did a great job!  Feel free to check our game too https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Hey there, feel free to give us a try. It's a pretty fast-paced game so won't take much of your time https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Thanks for checking it out, we're so glad you liked the overall gameplay! The starting attack speed is actually slow by design, but once you unlock the Rapid Loader and Heavy Charges combo, it makes a huge difference and fixes the speed for you.

Just rated, I like the premise of friends turning into enemies :) Here is our game - it's somewhere between tower defense/resource management: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

Thanks a lot, we're flattered to hear your kind words! I also gave your game a try and think that it has potential - maybe it needs a bit of work on balancing the values of items and rerolls would help. As of now it's pretty easy cause everything is so cheap to buy. Overall I did enjoy playing it :)

Will pay a visit to your game! Here is ours if you would like to check out - it's somewhere between tower defense/resource management: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4950083

I had a blast with this - balancing the temptation of the bribe money against keeping the club from going chaotic was fun.  I think multiple endings are such a smart touch, it does make me want to replay just to see how different choices turn out. My only small thought was that auto-advancing the line could make the flow feel even smoother instead of having to click the inspecting button everytime. Overall, it's a great experience even without audio :) If you happen to have a free moment during the jam, we'd be thrilled if you gave our game a look too!

Thanks for giving it a try, we're glad that you enjoyed it! I did rate and leave my comment under your game too :D

Just rated - haha funny enough I was thinking of something similar to yours but could not figure out the exact mechanics, great work on this one!!
