Thanks for the compliments again!
Honestly, I don't want to lie to you so I am not sure to make an other game for the snes. It was a very cool experience but it is very time hungry compared to game engines like godot, and there are still a lot of things I don't know how to do (like scrolling lol). It's definetely not out of the question as I feel like the limitations can also help you focus on what's important in your game.
Also 2 quick confessions: 1 my highscore is only 60450 so you almost beat me and 2 I got the core idea of this game on an old browser game I played in middle school (but I replayed it and it is really not as good as I remembered).
I saw your review!
You seemed to really like it. Thanks a lot!
And on a side note, since I saw that you reproach often homebrew games to not have music or sound, please know that it is the most difficult thing to implement with pvsneslib since music has to be in an old format that was not used for 30 years and the daws to make it are really really outdated, plus loading a new music into memory is absurdly long (and from what I know you can only have one loaded at any given time). Finally the compiler of sfx randomly refuses to compile a lot of sounds, including a lot that originate from snes/nes games.
That was longer than expected haha but thanks again for the good review!
Ok my tier list and thoughts on every character, which will also answer your other comment:
S-tier:
1. Mileena (she has 2 sai's, one straight with good knockback and one homing with weak knockback, so I think it's balanced imo)
A-tier:
2. Scorpion, with his airgrab he has some devious unbreakable setups that can combo into an huppercut if you cancel the airgrab into a waveland. Also I know his cpu really spams teleport punch a lot but the ai for the game is really a mess of a code and I honestly don't know why he does this sorry.
3. Liu Kang, I think his cooldowns are pretty short but it is coherent with identity as a rush down character.
B-tier:
4. Subzero, I honestly don't think he's bad because he has really good neutral but when you don't have your opponent in the corner his combos are not that good.
5. Raiden, by far the character with the most fun combos imo, but they mostly all start with an huppercut which can be difficult to land. He has pretty bad combo starters in general. Also his grab can be used for some unbreakable setups if you cancel into it from an heavy punch or something.
C-tier:
6. Kitana, by far the worst character imo. She's the first character I made and she's very simple and kind of outdated because of that. I think she can work if you play her really really defensive but it is a bit boring.
Subzero has a worse kombos than raiden but has way better defense as his ice flask can make him very hard to approach and any obvious attack can be countered by his down special and lead to a full combo (and he has a bit more hp).
I don't guarantee the game is really balanced though but its not an esports lol.
Thanks for the feedback!
Some of the combos are explained in the tutorial section (there are general tutorials and a specific tuto for each character).
If you get the opponent in the corner the combos can become even nastier. For example with raiden you can do huppercut into down special into hupper into forward special cancelled by a wavedash into again an other huppercut into a back special.
Also, combos with mileena can be almost infinite if you get them in the corner and have max ammos on your knifes (I think she's the best character, or at least the most difficult cpu to beat).
Also, for your review, please know that the game can be very fun once you get good at it but can be a bit brutal at the beginning (I tried to fix it but it is kind of inherent with the gameplay).
Also, know that there are 3 other ennemies that are unlocked once you reach 10k, 20k and 30k points.
And for the anecdote, the game is available at an arcade machine in my school and is performing like really really well (basically people play it every day and the record is at something like 400k points which I totally did not anticipate to be possible haha).
Hi, thanks for playing the game and I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Honestly, I didn't expect people to go that far, so the balance gets a little worse after the castle (but the story gets better imo).
As for the bugs with the walls, making collisions for each tile in a tileset is so tedious that I always make mistakes out of boredom, but I'll pay more attention to that in my next game (which should also be an rpg?).
