Hi there! n64dude here. I have produced an asset pack of "rarity textures", which are tileable and animated textures that can be used to indicate a "rarity" of an in-game item, whether that's an actual rarity or just an indication of value or level of some kind.

These are the kind of textures that might be used to decorate items obtained from in-game loot boxes.

The asset pack contains:

  • Six distinct rarity textures - Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, Legendary and Mythical - in ascending order of rarity. They are all sized 1024x1024 pixels and are tileable with themselves in both dimensions.
  • Random variants of the six textures, some not varying much, others varying greatly.
  • Image sequences of the textures representing animation frames. 30 frames are provided for each. The frame count is low as they are intended to be played at a low frame rate for a stop-frame effect.

One might use these textures as a background to an item icon in an inventory, or as a border. They might be animated in some way, such as by being translated (moved) or by using the provided animation frames - it is up to the user.

The names and order of the textures are just suggestions - feel free to rename and re-arrange them.

For those who find these textures are not "rare enough", the pack also contains a foil texture representing a shiny foil overlay, like in trading cards. This foil texture can be transitioned across a rarity texture using a gradient mask to imitate refraction as the item moves in the player's hand. There is a folder "Foil overlay" of animation frames in the pack for this purpose. They are transparent and intended to be overlaid on a texture or other image.

You can buy the texture pack here:

Enjoy!

Very authentic!

I was wondering if someone had made frutiger aero pixel art. Well done!

No problem. :)

Alternatively, to use this asset as a GUI icon, which is my original intention, you would import one of the individual PNGs into Unreal Engine’s editor for in-game GUIs as an icon. Which PNG you choose depends on which looks best, but I’d recommend the first frame of a set.

That is a specific of Unreal Engine, which I don’t use, sorry. I imagine you would import one of the sets of 2D frames as a sprite.

I’d recommend reading the documentation of Unreal Engine and maybe downloading a plugin if necessary.

Thanks!
