No worries. One guy isn't going to push me away from my projects. My skin is a bit thicker than that. Just have to get all this retirement business completed, then I'll finally be free and can get back to developing these games the way I originally intended. Thanks for the kind words :)

It isn't that I dislike your feedback. I disagree with it, yes. The fact that I work on two games has absolutely nothing to do with how long it has taken since my last release. I am well aware of how long it has been - I probably beat myself up over that fact more than you could. But it isn't because I work on two games. On that you're wrong. Before all the shitshow happened to me over the last year. i was releasing every 2 to 3 months. And once I am retired, I'll be able to get back to that. But maybe you don't even know that I've also been working a full time job at the same time and now I'm about to retire. You talk like I have no clue what's going on with my own followers and patrons.
I AM in the shoes of others who play these games. I began this as a major fan of quite a few. And have become close friends with many other devs. You sit here trying to explain this to me as if you think I have no idea what's going on. Man I've been doing this for about 5 years now. And now you're accusing me of not seeing things from your perspective? Consumers? You do realize that my games are free and that basically what little money I make at this is solely at the whim of whoever chooses to subscribe, donate, or whatever, right? And what... do you think I make 5 figures every month? Not hardly. I started doing this because I'm a creative person and I enjoy it. And now finally I'll get to do it without the full time job in the way. The income side of it started off as just a plus. So before you say anything about losing patrons or donations, you should know that when I retire, my income will be reduced by a THIRD. And still I'll be doing this whether people continue to subscribe or not.
I am engaged in stories right now that have extremely long delays between updates. But I'm not complaining about it because I know what it takes to do this. I know the sacrifices it takes and I know what it does to a family when you stay busy at your computer every day. Do you?
Don't get me wrong Woonz. I LOVE feedback, even the negative. I have said that at least a thousand times since I first started.. But you came in my post and basically said that you have no respect for me because I work on two games. All without knowing anything about me or my life. So fine, you don't respect me. What was the point of bothering to even comment on a post from a dev you have no respect for?
That's all I'll say about it. I hope you go back and read up on some of the things I've been dealing with, then maybe you'll have a much better understanding of why things have gone the way they have for me, and why I vehemently defend myself here now. I rarely bite back at people in these comments anymore but I'm sick of people thinking we as AVN devs can't stand up and defend ourselves and our work, especially to people who haven't got a clue what it takes. And I honestly didn't intend for this to sound like biting back. So... sorry about that. Peace...
Either you don't follow me enough to know my situation, or you have some misguided understanding of just what it takes to make these games. If you were saying that to a big, rich game development company, it might be understood. But in this platform, it's way off base. I don't ask for nor require anyone's respect. But at least know the floor you stand on before setting it on fire. From the beginning, I WANTED to make two games that had a connection. I did it this way on purpose. As I stated in quite a few of my devlogs (which I'm assuming you've never read), I also chose to do this to help stave off burnout on one story. One of the reasons so many devs start one of these games only to abandon them near the end is because they get burnt out working on the same story for (in some cases) several years. With that said, we're nearing the end of Serenity. So my time working on 2 games in tandem is coming to an end soon. To come here and use words like "retarded", "simping", "fellating", and expressing your "disrespect" to someone who is doing their best to make something good is counterproductive. Now, if I were trying to work on 4 games at one time, maybe I'd be off my rocker. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with working on two games as long as it works and keeps me focused; and not in a constant state of writer's block or loss of interest.
As mentioned by another commenter, I am retiring from my full time job and training someone to replace me there. I will be starting to work on my dev stuff full time after that.
And, I do not work on 3-4 games at a time. Who could do that anyway? I work on 2. And I do that for a reason... so I don't get burnt out on one.
I am one person doing this solo.
I usually do stagger my projects. But I ran into some writers block on Serenity so I switched to LH - rather than delaying everything. My process is something like this: First, I decide what I want to have happen in the episode... I create an outline, worded something like a trailer for a movie or game, with a few details, etc. Coding, and Scripting dialogue is next. Since my games are mostly kinetic (few choices), this is usually pretty straight-forward. But I've been trying to add a few choices (where you can choose to sleep with or not sleep with certain characters) so that means I need to create choice menus and a few variables so the game knows you made some choice about something later down the line. My "scene" lines (to show images) are all pre-entered but commented out, and I write my dialogue and everything else in between those. Next I start rendering. As they are rendered, I name the image files then uncomment that line in the code so I don't lose my place. After that, I play the episode from beginning to end to check for any issues, and while doing that, I choose background music and usually write it in along the way. If all is well after that, I build it, upload it, then tell you all about it LOL.
The only "Melissa" in chapter 2 is the girl that MC and Cammie go and save from the boyfriend. I mixed up Melissa and Melody by using the same variable for their names ('mel') and because of that, Melody was also being called Melissa. So, the girl that Fade brings over to Serenity back in Chapter 1, that is Melody (from the game "Melody" by MrDots). That will be corrected in the next release.
While I agree with this view, especially with visual art, I don't want to loop through what I have. I already do that as it is and trying to spread those repeat songs can get to be a pain in the ass. It can be really hard to find a track I want for a scene. Some devs will just grab some music they think sounds cool and stick it in there. I don't do that. I've delayed releases being stuck on finding the right music for one scene.
The subject of AI can generate some debate. But I'm not looking for that. And I am not planning on going to all AI music. This may simply be a situation where I need one more track and having a hard time finding one, so I do an AI song.
Finally, I have considered making my own music. I have done that (there are several tracks in my games that I made myself). The only issue with that is really just time. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
I mean this with NO disrespect whatsoever... but I don't personally see it that way. And for what its worth, if I want to write something I will. Again, NO disrespect here, but this is my story. With that said, I don't really have plans to have Last Human MC hook up with Rin. But as part of what I am writing, she will try her best to get him to. There is a reason for it that blends in with the plot later. But it doesn't mean something is going to happen. People freak out over the tiniest hint of anything that resembles NTR or cheating.
The reason I am responding to this is because when I first started writing Serenity and got the first release out, I got all kinds of backlash about Kat. It made me so angry that I almost didn't go any further with it - Serenity (and also Last Human) would never have happened. I decided then and there that I would write what I want to write no matter who screams. And this isn't aimed at you, Vidar... but the way you worded your message here is as if you are telling me what I should do or not do and that isn't how this works.
My best advice to you is... just enjoy the games that Devs are putting out. I know not all of them have content that is going to be agreeable to everyone (it simply is not possible). I learned some time ago that there are SO MANY of these AVN's out there that I skipped because I saw certain kinks listed that I didn't like... I went back and started playing them and found that they were actually really good, even if some parts weren't something I'm into.
At any rate, this message is for anyone else out there who thinks an AVN developer should write something the way YOU think it should be written. It will never happen. And if it did, I can almost guarantee you that you will actually not like it as much because the dev didn't do what he felt in his heart that he wanted to do - instead trying to please "everyone" (which will never work).
On linux: ~/.renpy/game_directory
You can also look in the game folder itself under: game/saves
With that said, for you it could be different. Doubtful, but I just find it really odd that when you sent me that traceback, it showed Windows at the bottom. When I get a traceback in my linux vm, it shows my linux build at the bottom. It could just be the way you have your system setup and may have nothing to do with anything. I've just never seen that happen before. Glad you got it figured out :)
They are not inconsistencies. They are in different dimensions - different versions of the same reality. It has nothing to do with timelines. I could create another game based on yet another dimension, another version of earth where technology is highly advanced with aliens and humans living peacefully together. Rin (a dream angel from Serenity) has the ability to jump to other dimensions. She shows up, and meets that dimension's version of "Mike". Now she knows three versions of the same person.
Now, want more confusion? Celeste is from Sylphine (yet another dimension)... Melody is from Seaside (another dimension). And all of those dimensions have one thing in common.... you. The person reading it. Hopefully you're picking up on what I am doing. I'm basically saying that we, the ones who read these visual novels, live in all of them. So when you play Last Human, you actually get to see someone from Serenity. When you play Serenity, you get to see someone from Sylphine.
Anyway... they're not inconsistencies. If they were, I'd be a pretty shitty writer LOL. It might be 1:00pm in Serenity but Rin jumps over to the Last Human dimension and its midnight there. So it has nothing to do with timelines at all. Hopefully you understood all that (and I didn't confuse you even more) :)
I have absolutely no clue how to fix your issue, honestly. You are the first linux user (in at least 5 years of doing this) that has ever reported anything. I tested the game in my linux VM and it works fine there. The only other thing I can suggest is maybe redownload it fresh. Did you by any chance copy the latest download OVER the previous game folder from the last version? If you did, that will cause strange issues on any device.
I'm honestly a little surprised this is the first time you had a crash running Linux under Wine. How much memory do you have reserved for Linux in that setup? For some reason, it appears to be running out of memory. There is nothing at that point after the animation that is any larger in size than anything else. My renpy games are very simple: script lines, images, and animations. No special or crazy python commands... certainly nothing that should cause a "MemoryError". I also have a linux vm running under Wine and use it to test builds every release. I just tried playing through that part of the game and mine had no issues.
Are you running Wine under Windows? (I assume so). At the bottom of the traceback, it tells us that renpy is detecting Windows 8. Have you tried running the game from Windows instead just to see if you get passed that point?
I do not use Blender. I use timeline (mod) for studio. It can be a tedious process, but it works fine if you put the work in and animate all the points you can in a character to create some kind of lifelike movement.
I have no idea how to use Blender and probably will never mess with it. But you can do some pretty decent animations with timeline if you're patient, persistent, and don't mind the tedious work of posing and moving FK points.
On voices: never happen. If you think development takes a long time now... You have to remember I'm one person doing the work of many. Voice actresses need to get paid too and I don't make enough for that. And I refuse to use AI voices... I've heard that done and I just don't like it.
On starting your VN: You will find it really difficult to find a dev willing to try to help you with this. Aside from the fact that we really don't have time; it's a complicated process to teach someone how to code, render, and animate. And that is only a part of it. I had to learn most of this stuff on my own. And if I'm honest, it really is the best way. I will give you this advice though - You're going to need Renpy. Google it. You need that to code (make your game story and dialogue). The site has tons of documentation and comes with an example game. You're also going to need images, and what you use is up to you - HoneySelect, HoneySelect2, or go the more challenging route and try DAZ3d. I would advise using HoneySelect2 (LH and Serenity use this). Download it and just start using it.
I am developing 2 VNs. I am not focusing more on one than the other. I work on each update as best I can with the time I have outside of working a busy full-time job and taking care of family. Sometimes it takes me longer to update one than the other but not because I just 'spend more time' on one than the other. Once I complete an update to one, I begin work on the other. So yes, it can take a while between updates.
No, I don't think I'll be doing a 3rd season. But I won't rule out the possibility of revisiting the series - perhaps later down the road. I've been working on Serenity for around 6 years now and really want to move on to something else. Last Human will go on though. And I will be doing a single game based on Camilla.
