I have really been waiting for this since I first saw your art!
The entire thing is magical, I love the lighthearted silly ambiance, and the simple yet high quality game design.
An interesting touch to have the enemies react to your input.
At the last boss (I think, Santa's evil brother) I wasn't able to figure out the fight mechanics.
Hi, I came from the facebook Pixel Art + group. I finished your current version, here is some feedback:
Things I loved:
- Graphics are beautiful.
- Scripted animations are smooth.
- I can interact with many environmental items, good exposition.
- Color scheme is easy to understand, I can visually tell which items are important for the gameplay.
- Music is also nice.
- Protagonist has nice abs.
Suggestions for improvement:
- When I find bread or ammo, the game asks me if I want to pick it up. This is an unnecessary dialogue step, I always want to pick them up. It's ok to tell me what item I just found, but I don't need to be asked the choice to pick it up or leave it there.
- Entering rooms is sometimes disorienting, I enter a door from North and inside I am on the North side of the room facing South... I expect to continue walking the same direction where I entered, not reversing the direction when I change a scene.
- The English text is a bit grammatically broken.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm addressing the blocking issue. In the next update the partner moves away a bit from the player when you address him on the road, giving you an option to clear the path if you're cornered.
The actual hitboxes are kind of by design a consistent tile-size for everything, though I understand that it feels weird having these invisible boundaries for smaller objects and thinner characters. I will experiment a bit with tweaking their sizes.
