Hello everyone! I posted a little less than a month ago about my project, which you can find here:

https://www.castingcall.club/projects/the-hidden-roles-voice-actors-visual-novel
(you can submit your audio here!)

The two members were found and now the 3 of us and also a music composer are moving forward! In these days I opened the project page on Casting Call Club to find 3 Voice Actors for the Demo. Here I will briefly explain the characters, on CCC you will find more details on the plot, the project, and especially on the characters! It's a Death Game themed Visual Novel, inspired by Danganronpa, Zero Escape and Among Us (to give you a clearer idea on how Among Us is integrated, imagine the "roles" from Your Turn to Die, but much more complex and not limited to "if you vote for me this happens", the roles will have effects right from the investigation part!)

  • Main Character: adult man, ex-detective, a person with a short temper but reasonable when it's time. Tone that varies from an annoyed man to a calmer one, and with moments of strong vulnerability.
  • Clown: teenage girl, a clown who regardless of who she is facing, tries to be friendly to you. She loves to be theatrical, those around her either love her or hate her.
  • Mastermind: (feel free to experiment with the timbre), the villain who locked up 16 people and is ready to enjoy the show. You don't know when they are mocking you, but you can tell they are diabolical.

I will briefly explain the project and the plot instead: a demo will be published, and before that, a community will be built on social media and especially a Discord server, which currently serves us on the dev team to communicate. If the crowdfunding is successful, you get paid, including the work on the demo, so a lot of importance will be given to its success!

Plot in brief:

2 people, an ex-detective and a clown, find themselves in a laboratory, without knowing why. After that, a voice echoes in the room, revealing itself to them as the one who locked them in there. It doesn't mince words: they have to get out of that room by solving puzzles. Once they manage to solve them, before leaving the room the mastermind informs them to check their "hidden role", which must not be revealed under penalty of "expulsion", and to proceed to the "next phase" by leaving the room. Once out, they will meet 14 other characters of very varied ages, they too will discover that they had to get out of a room by solving other puzzles, always in pairs. At that point, they will discover what the second phase consists of: the characters will have to stick to their roles until someone dies. At that point, a debate will start to decide who to throw out. The roles, however, will have a fundamental importance right from the beginning of the second phase, and the culprit is not necessarily the one who killed. Who knows, nobody knows the truth, they will have to find out themselves!

I hope to see you there, and thanks for reading!

Hi Jennifer! Of course, it's still a bit early at the moment, but the character writing for the demo and the very first sketches is at a good point, so the overall structure is starting to take shape.

Voice acting will probably take place in 1–2 months, but having applications in advance is definitely perfect! If you'd like, send me your Discord username and I'll add you so we can talk about it in more detail

Hey! Yeppp, still free! I'll send you a friend request on Discord! :)

Unfortunately I can't, the game is still in its early stages and I'm just testing the code. And I'd prefer not to have people I don't know as playtesters since there would be a risk of leaking the puzzles and the plot! But thank you for offering!

Hey, nice to meet you! Thanks for your message! I actually just found a composer yesterday, so the music/OST is already covered. However, I am definitely looking for a Sound Designer for the sound effects, that would be awesome! Let me know if it's fine for you and in case I can send you my Discord!

Ehy! Thanks, I send you a friend request, so we can talk there! :D

(1 edit)

Hi everyone! I’m a university student studying Game Design, Business, Programming (and soon Art!) who already makes that "Ouch, my back!" sound when standing up (come on, 26 isn't that old, right?😞)

Jokes aside, I’m currently working on a Visual Novel / Adventure Game. This project is starting out as a hobby/passion project, but the ultimate goal is to build a Vertical Slice to launch a Kickstarter campaign. If the crowdfunding is successful, all work will be paid through milestone agreements (don't expect millions, but enough to treat yourself and get nicely compensated for your hard work!😄) and then create a full game to be released on Steam.

The Project

Over the years, I’ve seen countless fangames inspired by Danganronpa. However, many of them end up being too similar. I want to create something that has same vibes but stands firmly on its own identity. I want to take the trial mechanics and try something cool.

The core loop will combine:

  • Escape Rooms & Puzzles (inspired by Zero Escape)
  • Murders & Trials (inspired by Danganronpa but like I said, not same minigames)
  • Hidden Roles (special roles, somewhat like Among Us but with completely different specifics, just imagine a Trial but you need to be careful about the role of other people. The culprit is not the only one to be careful).

Short storyline

Two characters wake up in a room and must escape by solving puzzles. Once they break out, roles are assigned, and we enter phase two: they will meet other groups who escaped their own rooms. A deadly game begins, someone will be murdered, and when that happens, the survivors must find the culprit. However, they must pay attention to the roles: they can completely flip the outcome. The actual culprit isn't necessarily the "right" person to vote for. This cycle will repeat each chapter and the storyline will continue.

Roadmap

August - September 2026:

  • Main characters sketches.
  • First Escape Room visual concept.
  • Social media & Discord server for the community.

Late 2026 / Q1 2027 (Between December / March):

  • Vertical Slice (Demo on Steam), which will include:
    • The first Escape Room.
    • The first Murder.
    • The first Trial (featuring completely original minigames, nothing copied from Danganronpa)

(Btw, this could be possibly a "fake" one, to avoid spoilers. The goal of the Vertical Slice is to show us to the audience)

After that:

  • Launch the Kickstarter with the Vertical Slice to fund our work (paid via milestones), Voice Actors, a Music Composer, and other game dev expenses.
  • Begin full production of Chapter 1 for a Steam release within the year, followed by subsequent chapters.

About Me:

  • My Role: I am covering Programming, Writing, Management, and Social Media (but with a succesful crowfunding I could hire someone to help me about this, just in case).
  • My Portfolio: I don't have a formal portfolio to share just yet. Even though I’ve worked on several projects at my university, the stuff you make during your first year isn't usually something you put in a professional portfolio. However, my hands-on experience covers programming, game design, and UI/UX!

Who I’m Looking For

2D Character Designer (Sprites)

  • Responsibilities: Designing every character and creating their base sprites with different facial expressions.
  • What you'll receive: I will provide a moodboard for each character so you won't be working in the dark. After your initial sketch, we will refine and decide on the final moodboard together.

Environment Artist (2D and/or 3D)

  • Responsibilities: Designing the puzzle rooms and explorable environments.
  • What you'll receive: You will receive a moodboard and a Miro link showing exactly how the puzzles are structured, giving you a clear idea of the final result.

We will prepare the Art Bible together! 😃

What is Already Prepared?

  • The complete moodboard for the first character (who will also be your "test subject" to see if our styles match).
  • A Miro board detailing the first room's puzzles and their mathematical/logical solutions. I am currently finalizing a small moodboard for the room itself.
  • A general cast, a pre-moodboard of each one basically

Requirements

If you are skilled and a good fit, nothing else matters. However, a portfolio is not required but higly recommend (especially for the Environment Artist. I don't want to make you work for weeks only to find out it's not a match). This is a serious, demanding project, and I want to avoid ghosting or people taking it lightly. Applying does not mean an automatic "yes.". I will provide the moodboard for the first character and ask for a quick sketch to see if our visions align (this is for the Character Design).

If you are interested or want more info, feel free to reply here, I can send you my Discord to talk about it!
