I’ve worked on web-comics, screenplays, video game narratives, and, my personal favorite, visual novels. Upon learning of his mother's recent passing, a depressed idealist explores the anarchy city of Kowloon Walled City in the hopes of recovering her body. In his search, he comes into contact with grotesque monsters hellbent on devouring him.

- WHAT IS FEAR OF DEATH? -

Fear of Death is a stealth-based, side-scroller survival horror game set in the once-infamous Kowloon Walled City. Exploration plays a huge role in the overall experience, as the player must collect resources and solve puzzles to progress further in a rich narrative about depression and grief. Hide. Survive. Uncover. Will you reveal the secrets lurking within the city walls?

- KEY FEATURES -

• Cover System: Hide under beds, inside lockers, and behind desks from ruthless Lovecraftian monstrosities gluttonous for human flesh. 

• Breathing Mechanic: Play a short minigame to control your breathing to avoid being spotted. 

• Chases: Use the unorthodox yet intricate layout of the city to disorient and outwit your pursuers.

• Puzzles: Solve reasonably challenging puzzles to uncover the dark mysteries of the city.  
• Sanity Meter: Preserve your ever-so-frail mind from the nightmares lurking behind the shadow because, once your sanity breaks, your imagination becomes your worst enemy.

Gameplay -

Fear of Death is a 3D side-scroller horror set inside the once infamous Kowloon Walled City with a heavy emphasis on stealth and exploration to tell a compelling story of guilt and depression. Hide. Survive. Uncover. Will you reveal the secrets lurking behind the walls?

Key Features -

• Cover System: Use furniture like beds, dressers, and cage homes to hide from monsters.
• Breathing Mechanic: Play a short minigame to control your breathing to prevent monsters from hearing you.
• Chases: Use the unorthodox yet interconnected landscape to disorient your pursuer. 
• Puzzles: Solve reasonably challenging puzzles to progress further and uncover the truth behind Kowloon City and its dark mysteries.  

Art Style -

The game will have a low-poly, minimalist art style with a VHS overlay replicating the style of the early 90s. The idea is to give the player an uncomfortable sense that someone is recording them in the hopes of capturing their untimely demise. This is also a callback to games from the PlayStation original.

Hello again. Last week I made a post asking people if they would be interested in joining my project. And to my surprise, a lot of you were. Thank you for that. As mentioned before, I made a post last week, but with the decision to change some aspects of the project, it is now outdated. The biggest change is the switch from Unreal Engine to Unity. 

Currently, the team is six people strong. We have:

• 3D Environment Artist
• Concept Artist
• Two Composers (one focused on making ambient music, the other on making the soundtrack)
• A sound designer 
• And me (project manager, game designer, writer, level designer)

My team is working on a survival horror game called Fear of Death. It is a 2.5D side-scroller set inside Kowloon Walled City with heavy emphasis on stealth and puzzle-solving to tell a compelling story about isolation and depression. Hide. Survive. Uncover.
