The XP shown in the third image was awarded for defeating the dragon. Perhaps i should consider labeling it "Dragon XP" or something similar to avoid confusion.
The "Misc XP" category on the delve recap screen refers to an XP item that is looted from chests only after completely depleting the item pool.

I'll address your points one at a time.
Reblancing: I'll emphasize that this game is a recreation of a tabletop dice game and our goal was to be as true to the original as possible. In short, the rules are the rules! :P
And while the Enchantress is also my favorite hero, i find that each hero's unique abilities certainly make them worth playing.
Scrolls: I personally find scrolls quite useful. The ability to reroll any number of dungeon and/or party die certainly has its advantages and has gotten me out of many tight spots.
Potions: While a potion may be similar to a scroll in some aspects, they do have the distinct advantage of allowing you to choose what type of unit you want to revive. Also note that one unit can drink multiple potions. This allows you to, in essence, change that unit's type as well as revive a unit for each additional potion quaffed. Pretty powerful stuff!
Extra XP: While gaining "miscXP" is possible, it is a rare occurrence that only takes place under special circumstances.

Vertical Collapse is very much still in development. Progress has been slow as of late due to some big changes in the team's personal lives (all good!!!), but we are still working as hard as we can, when we can.
Stoked to be mentioned in the same sentence as Demons Crush as that was a huge inspiration while designing this game. :D

A pretty good story based arty atmospheric walking sim. It was interesting trying to work out the story bit by bit, and even by the end there's a lot of details missing, but it was still an engaging and memorable. Good job!
