Thank you for playing! Regarding the interpretation of the theme: Gargoyles decaying by taking damage isn't the only thing that connects this game to an idea of "decay". Reaching a certain point in altitude will force gargoyles to destroy themselves with a 100% chance to spawn a big pile of rubble, which cannot be destroyed and will deal damage to the player if not avoided. As the game progresses this becomes even more of a challenge as failing to stop gargoyles from coming closer to the bottom of the screen will result in a very tough gaming environment where you basically have to dodge multiple rubbles at once. Also, there's a chance that decaying into rubble will happen anyway, regardless of how close the gargoyle is to the bottom of the screen. Thus, the name "Gargoyle Gambit" - Gargoyles come closer taking a risk of destruction, but at the same time they become deadlier. Hope that explains my vision of the correlation my game has to a theme of a jam.
That's a nice step you've taken: releasing a game to a public is an important milestone! I should say, that I really like that you have side characters/bg elements to compliment the story. And don't worry, 48 hour jams are a challenge for a reason and you did fine. Hope you won't get discouraged and be too harsh on yourself! Good job!
