This is a nice looking game, with a rather fun mechanic. Find Stuff! I could see how the game could be built around this, and a story mode would certainly be interesting. It is like a 3d i-Spy, and it does it's job well. Please reach out once you update (after the review period is finished).

There is a lot more to this game that I just didn’t have the energy to finish implementing in the end (48 hours is not much time, especially when working solo). Scoring and time. Power ups. Tile damage and destruction. Infinite levels. Difficulty settings. Alternate game modes. Leaderboards. I sadly have them all implemented under the hood but didn’t have the time to work them all in to this first release. That said, when the rating period ends (in one week) I intend to release the updated, more feature-amended version.

As far as gameplay, basic changes will be the tiles between the one you are on and the one you move too will be damaged and receive cracks, and if they are crossed again they will be destroyed, leaving a hole. Power ups will include a Plus Grenade that you can throw to one of your accessible tiles, which will take a 3x3 grid of tiles and increase their count by one. So a 1 would become a 2, a 2 to a 3, and so on. 6’s would become a wall. There is also a Minus Mine, which serves the opposite role. 1’s will become a hole, other tiles will decrement by one. Then there is a Lightning Boost, which lets you go double the distance, ignoring any holes or walls, but destroys any tiles in your path. Balloon Shoes will let you skip over a gap without falling through. Repair Tool will let you fix all cracked tiles in a certain vicinity. There are several more power ups in the works as well (10 so far). The power ups will come from the first time you land on a 6, and you can only carry one at a time. Upon a game over you can retry the same level or generate a new one. There will be an option to generate a level with specific seeds.

If there is anything else I add I will probably post them here or on a dev log soon.

I know this game is very bare bones in this demo, but hopefully one or two people can see the foundation for a pretty solid strategy puzzle game here.

Edit: forgot to add, there will be music!

Absolutely! And no problem, hopefully it helps get more feedback.

Great work

If it is a .jar file you will need to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), it's free online if you decide to do so:

Java Downloads for All Operating Systems

I know this is a game jam and they tend to not be always polished, but I can see the makings of a good game here. And you know what? I like this game. I genuinely enjoyed playing it. If you were looking for feedback on this, this is what I've got:

It would be nice to have some indication of what the other sides of my dice are, so I can plan my route a bit by trying to maximize the numbers I drop into the spaces.

The graphics are actually more-or-less fine. I think it would benefit from a beautification pass, but they serve the purpose they need to.

The game play is interesting, and this is one of those games where it's definitely easy to pick up, but difficult to master.

Put some gentle background music in.

The sound of the dice dropping into the hole is ok, but it is a bit jarring. Try softening the start of the sound a bit, it feels too crunchy imo.

Overall, nice work, and I like seeing you using the theme without being so on-the-nose with 'dice rolling'. Good job. Hopefully you polish this a bit and update. I would play this more.

Agreed, this could be pretty fun. Just remember, DO NOT modify your submission for the next week unless you are ok with being disqualified from the Jam. I intend to fix the bugs and finish the game loop in mine and re-release in about two weeks, much more polished. (Once rating is over)

This game was interesting. As another commenter stated, there is a small range of space you can stay from the enemy where you can attack them and they wont aggro. Also, when I get to the second or third batch of snakes my shots were counting as misses some of the time instead of hits. Small bug, and totally acceptable, as this is a Game Jam submission. Overall, nice interpretation on the theme, and good work getting this submitted. My own submission doesn't even have the whole game loop implemented. Good job, you and your team should be proud, this was a very short jam.

This game seems interesting. I think it is a creative mechanic. The character itself seems somewhat useless, since they can't move (I think?) and serve only as a health totem, and it feels like the 'right mouse to stop' doesn't do anything. It's a Game Jam so it's somewhat expected for certain things to not be fleshed out (my own submission is just the foundation and doesn't even have it's full game loop), but I might have removed that bit from the text before cooking the project. Overall, it is fun and I spent longer playing it than I'd care to admit for a 48-hour jam game lol. Things work more or less how you expect, and the art is pretty cool too. Nice work.

Looking for anyone who wants to join up. We have me (2 yr CS student) and another person looking to help code as well.

Would love any 3d artists or animators, musicians, designers, anyone who wants to just jam with us.

Neither of the two of us have competed in a game jam before.

I am a CS student in Central Florida, United States. I have what I would consider an intermediate level of programming knowledge, but have yet to ship any software. I love science-fiction and fantasy, and look to tell relatable stories through an inviting low-poly format.

My skills include intermediate programming, intermediate 3-d modeling, minimal animation

Potential team member proficiencies wanted:
