We are currently working on a visual novel project. It is an anthology of high-concept science fiction stories, in the tradition of The Twilight Zone, Black Mirror, etc., that explore issues of trust, temptation, free will, grief, loyalty, love, sexuality, contentment, and fulfillment with which humanity may need to contend in the future, with various levels of interactivity.
What do You Have so Far?
Our producer has an LLC already set up.
I’ve already written the scripts for three installments, and have ideas for two more. I am highly confident in the potential of these scripts, and I believe you will be too after you read them (see below on how to do so).
We have already recruited a coder.
We have a few prospective composers.
What Don’t You Have so Far?
Money.
Who do You Still Need?
We need illustrations for the sprites, CGs, and backgrounds.
Many different styles of art are acceptable, but note that the tone of this series tends to skew rather heavy and the art needs to be taken seriously.
The anthology is intended for mature audiences. You may be asked to draw artwork accordingly, for future installments if not this one.
What are Your Immediate Plans?
Our current plan is to release one installment for free as a pilot or demo, and develop the others if the reception of the first one is such that a studio or investors offer to produce and finance them, or a crowdfunding campaign is likely to be successful. So while you will not be paid for the first installment, you are likely to be hired to work on the others if they gain the necessary backing (which could possibly be negotiated in your contract — see below), for which you will be paid. If not, you will at the very least gain exposure if the first installment gains popularity.
Whatever the case, rest assured that no content you produce for free will be incorporated into any product sold for profit.
Its script currently calls for:
• 7 sprites with a total of 27 expressions (not counting outfits)
• 16 backgrounds with a total of 18 variations
• 6 CGs
Who are You?
My name, or at least pen name, is Ulric Alvin Watts. I’ve been a published writer for nearly two decades now. Recently, I’ve taken to writing fiction, particularly science fiction; including a novella, short stories, and scripts for a few visual novels.
Are You Any Good?
I realize my own estimate of my talents probably won’t count for much in the eyes of others. But there have been some outside indicators of the quality of my work:
• I was previously selected out of a pool of applicants to be a writer on a visual novel project.
• My novella was likened to Asimov by Kirkus Reviews.
• One of my short stories was selected to be read aloud for an episode of a podcast “featuring the best science fiction short fiction.” (Most authors contact them for this to happen, but they approached me.)
For samples of my work, you can see my portfolio.
How Can I See the Complete Scripts For These Projects?
Send your portfolio to the email address seen on the bottom of the page at UAWatts (dot) com. If we in turn are interested in your work, we will send you a link to a detailed script and notes on artwork for the demo installment, as well as the two other completed dialogue scripts. If we reach an agreement, we will draft a contract to sign so you can join our team.
I am seeking work as a visual novel writer.
I’ve written short stories, short screenplays, visual novels, and one novella, mostly science fiction and occasionally fantasy. You may have read about me in Kirkus Reviews or heard one of my stories on the Auditory Anthology podcast. For a few samples of my writing, you can visit my portfolio at https://uawatts.com/portfolio/link.
I typically charge $.07/word, and a bit more for erotic content (see below). I currently accept payment through Zelle, physical cheques, and cryptocurrency (and Paypal as a last resort).
On Writing Spicy Stuff: I’ve received lots of inquiries about this in the past, and it’s a bit complicated. I usually agree to join projects with the understanding that doing so will grant me more exposure in addition to payment for the project itself, and interest in my other work. But for projects with heavy erotic content, I’m not sure it would be prudent to promote myself as a part of the team — I’m also trying to sell a children’s book — so I will likely charge more for my services on such a project in lieu of such anticipated publicity. And I’ll use a different pen name, of course.
And even then, I have my limits. Don’t expect me to join the writing team in any capacity if you plan on your sex scenes featuring animals other than consenting adult humans (and perhaps the fictional alien/anthropomorphic species equivalent); incorporation of bodily ejecta, other than those typically associated with sexual activity; direct sexual contact between close biological relatives; or spreading of venereal disease, or heavy implication thereof.

Works I’ve already written
These are already complete and ready to be produced. I stand by these so much that I’m not asking for any payment up front for the rights to them, only royalties (negotiable) from sales of the finished products.
Science Fiction Anthology Visual Novel
A trilogy of high-concept “What if?” sci-fi stories — think *The Twilight Zone*, *Black Mirror*, etc. — presenting issues with which the human race may have to deal in the future, in the form of visual novels with various levels of interactivity.
Each installment requires roughly half an hour of playtime to reach all the endings, can be released one at a time or all at once, and might lead to an ongoing series... for which I might be willing to write more installments.
If you are interested in reading these scripts, contact me (see below).
Stimulations
In a place whose government controls its people not through threats of punishment but promises of pleasure, a hacker discovers what appears to be a way to beat the government at its own game. . .but may actually be a clue of something far more sinister.
Stowaway
After departing an offworld mining colony where a mysterious disease has started to spread, an astronaut finds himself the protector of a helpless, innocent child against malevolent forces from within the ship. But is all what it seems?
Substitute
What if you met the one true love of your life. . .only to lose them far sooner than you’d ever anticipated? One man has taken advantage of modern technology to solve that problem. Or is it really solved?
How to Contact Me
