Love that you experimented with the language switching. That’s a great observation, and you’re not wrong — for some players, unfamiliar languages can actually reduce automatic reading and help with focus. It’s fun to see people discover that on their own.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback — you’re absolutely right that the game can feel too fast, especially before you’ve had a chance to understand what you’re supposed to do.
I’ve made two pacing adjustments based directly on what you described:
- The very first round now gives noticeably more time so you can actually finish reading it.
- The first time you encounter the “mischief” effects (like button/color shuffling or shaking), the round timer now extends a bit to give you a fair moment to recognize what changed and react.
The goal is to keep the game intense once you’re warmed up, but avoid “unfair fast” moments during learning and the first surprise distractions. If you try the updated build and it still feels too tight, please tell me roughly what score you reach when it starts feeling unreasonable — that helps me tune the difficulty curve without making the whole game sluggish. Thanks again!
Hi everyone!
I’ve just published a small arcade-style puzzle game on itch.io called NOT RED, and I’d love to share it with the community and hear your thoughts.
🎮 About the game
NOT RED is a fast-reaction, score-attack game inspired by the Stroop effect.
In each round, you’ll see a color word (like RED), but it’s usually displayed in the wrong color.
Your goal is simple—but deceptively hard:
Tap the button that matches the meaning of the word, not the color you see.
The game starts easy, then gradually ramps up by:
-
Giving you less time per round
-
Introducing more colors
-
Adding light visual distractions
-
Occasionally triggering a short “Flow Time” mode where the timer freezes as a reward for strong streaks
Each run is short, intense, and designed for quick replays while chasing a higher score.
🧠 Key features
-
Fast-paced reflex + puzzle gameplay
-
Score attack & streak system (high scores saved locally)
-
Very short rounds — easy to retry, hard to master
-
Challenge codes that let you replay or share the same run with friends
-
Multiple languages supported (EN / ZH / ES / FR / JA / KO / PT)
-
Minimalist UI with accessibility-friendly shape icons for colors

💬 Feedback welcome!
This is a small, focused project, and I’m especially interested in feedback on:
-
Difficulty curve (too fast / too slow?)
-
Whether the visual distractions feel fun or unfair
-
First-time onboarding clarity
-
Anything that confused or surprised you
Thanks for taking the time to check it out, and thanks to itch.io for being such a supportive place for small experimental games!
