I think it's preety obvious, but i haven't seen anyone talk about it. I believe tak the "reaserch" Murrow stole from the bat lady is conected to cole being the son of both marrow and hamish, it would explain why he was very "sick" When he was young and is smaller than most hyenas and why we never heard about his mother. I think the Spell/ritual was succesfull but it had lasting side effects on cole.
to explain myself(excuse my bad english)
you are put in a world of anthro animals against your will(wolves with a superiority complex to be exact), your only friend and love interest is the chiefs/emperrors son who is ashamed of being gay. you have to play dumb, because the knowledge that you are as smart as the locals will get you killed and you expierence messages from a higher power.
also amicus has an arm ring similar to the wolves in this universe and at first i was convinced that the pin on his cape was a moon stone.
im not acussing anyone of copying but i think that the author was at least inspired by adastra.(not a bad thing obv.)
