honestly i like the look, it looks like thomas was alone. the art fits the gameplay well. i am curious how you would make this mechanic into an entire metroidvania

I liked this game! I wish that you would make some adjustments so that the light didn't immediately move towards the mouse. I found that a good strategy was to flick my mouse around the whole screen and spot the specs of purple. Although doing this makes me desperate to find ghosts and makes me feel like I'm shaking, I don't think was your intended way of playing. To compensate, I think a good idea is to make the time to takes to make a ghost a little longer.
I wish there was an option to have the camera controls not inverted. It was really hard to get used to the inverted camera controls. I think the delay in the camera movement was too high for me to get the grasp of the inverted camera controls.
When I tried to use WASD to move, I felt like it wasn't doing anything. A short and easy tutorial would be nice to teach me how to pilot the ship. I had no idea where I was supposed to go.
Other than that, you did a great job in making me feel like I was in a space ship in the middle of nowhere. I love the music.
The highest I got was wave 10. It's really fun to figure out what the optimal placement strategies are.
I have a few suggestions:
Make the next wave timer skippable
For each chess piece, maybe have a special ability? For example, if a pawn gets to the finish line, it transforms into a queen and has to move backwards to the end, which makes your turrets focus on the queen instead of other chess pieces.
