the console looks amazing, even tho hard to wrapped my head around everything that's going on and how to go about. but really cool to navigate, managed to drill something and destroy something with the missile.
will love to see how this develops and becomes a full thing. defo missing some sound to give it even more ambience and blips.
yeah in a way I guess being confused it's part of the experience. its good to know that. also that you didn't felt things were so clear, especially abot the rolls. is defo a good shout for me to be aware and try to improve on. so thanks for saying all that!
you technically shouldn't be allowed to roll the same stat before rolling the others first. defo a bug I will look into.
the choice of stat is mostly about the flavor that you want to put on the story as you get prompted. as i built this with a ttrpg "theatre of the mind" type of idea, you are creating your own story. the terminal gameplay might not make it so clear. but in a way it also relates to the setting.
I think you feeling not rolling fewer dice it's worth it, ends up being your strategy and the story you are constructing, but the idea to break out of the loop is to roll low and get glitches instead of successes. But you don't have to try to break the loop, is all up to you. in the terminal the DC is indeed static because of time and easier to just make it that.
also I guess one thing that might got hidden in the page description, and could help make things clearer, is that I did the game in a webzine type format first https://mama-cailleach.github.io/31st-of-feb-zine, and the terminal is a tool for one type of gameplay. but I tried to expose everything a bit better on the zine (not that it will necessarily make things clearer lol). so a quick one page cheat sheet instructions thing could have been more useful in the itch page.
Is for the Playdate, but if you don't have the console you can download the sdk and use the simulator.
Here is the link - https://play.date/dev/
Then you can just open the .pdx file in the simulator. Let me know if you need anymore info to make it work. happy to help :)
The grind is real lol.
Echoing the other comments here of how it feels this can easily be a bigger more polished game if you you decide to work on it from here. More levels, features, etc. Was even feeling different drop off points for different items in a later stage.
Glad I wasn't the only one to get out of bounds. It feels nice to be in the vastness of space, but also a little background stars or something could be a nice touch.
Fun game, I had a nice time playing the second time even more.
hehe I'm glad you were okay with the crash XD
Thanks for your reflection, that's really cool! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And also nice to know the extra comments here made it more clear and help not be trapped forever in the loop. Defo something for me to keep in mind if I make something in these lines again of how to incorporate better in game.
Thats was cool, nice one! At first I didn't register turning the playdate vertical and that was a cool touch.
Maybe not intentional but you can play it as a descent I guess as a helium baloon that went too far and is trying to get back. I prefered the controls on the right hand, so that worked better for me and didn't really took anything from the game.
Oh thanks for the feedback, that makes sense. I will update here on the explanation for hopefully clearer instructions.
In the end the game don't really have a point to be missed hehe. I think the main thing was for me to do something to get out of my head.
But aye, thanks for the shout! I haven't had the chance yet, but excited to try out yr game!
Awnn thanks for the comment and for playing!
I didn't even thought about sending to catalog tbh, but been getting some nice reviews. I think once I have time to go back and do some updates I'll try to send it to them!
Lool. Ace of pentacles was in your path to pull on yr first venture, the cards follow their own path and the spirits of rng smiled to ya :)
very very cool tarot set! I used it for this playdate game. thanks so much.
