Hey everyone,

Me and a friend are starting a indie multiplayer game in Unreal, and we’re looking for a game designer to join us early.

I'm a gameplay programmer based in Gothenburg, Sweden, mostly C++ and Blueprints, multiplayer systems, gameplay architecture. I've worked across many Unreal projects including one that got accepted into iD@Xbox, and have been working in Unreal for more than 5 years. I also have a masters in game design so I'll be pulling design weight too, not just code. My friend Ammar is also an Unreal dev, strong with C++ and Blueprints, and genuinely fast at getting gameplay ideas working and playable. So we are a good heavy on code, good at design combo but I don’t want this to become just two programmers designing in a bubble.

The rough direction right now is a multiplayer game, probably horror PvP / PvPvE, but we’re still early and not pretending everything is figured out. We haven't locked the concept because we want a designer in before things get locked, not after. What we do know is we want something with a strong hook. Short matches, fun with friends, the kind of moments you want to clip and send someone. Easy to explain when you see it. You know, those "Twitchable" moments.

We’re not trying to build a giant game. We both have jobs, and we know anyone joining probably has their own life/work too. Ideally we’d like to aim for something playable and shippable in the 6–8 month range, but that’s a direction, so no additional pressure. The goal is fast iteration, regular playtests, and keeping the scope honest.

What we're looking for:

  • Someone who likes multiplayer games and actually thinks about why they work
  • Comfortable shaping mechanics, player roles, objectives, match flow, pacing
  • Happy to be in early messy prototype phase, opinions welcome, ego optional xD
  • Bonus if you can greybox in Unreal
  • Bonus if horror, proximity voice, chaotic party games, or extraction loops are your thing

The deal:

The setup is rev-share. We’re planning to reserve up to 30% total for non-founder contributors across design/art/audio/etc. For this designer role, we’re thinking somewhere around 8–15%, depending on involvement and responsibility. Nothing is locked until we talk properly, and we’d want everything written down clearly before serious work starts.

We're not looking for an ideas person. We want someone who wants to work through design problems, run playtests, cut things that aren't fun, and help us find the game inside the mess.

Current plan is to talk with interested people and see if our taste/goals match, If it feels right, agree on role, share, expectations, and milestones properly, then start building for real in Unreal (ba dum tsss)

If interested,  add me on Discord: poseidonog

Tell me a bit about yourself, what you've worked on, what multiplayer games you actually like, and what kind of design work you enjoy. Portfolio is great and shows a lot, but we care more about taste, communication, and actually wanting to finish a small game than fancy titles.

Thanks!
