Yeah, you're right; I came back to this game a few hours later and figured it out. I finished the game after spending a lot of time playing it, and in my opinion, it is one of the best games at this GameJam! I definitely would like to play it again, and again... and again! Wish you luck! <3

Sure thing! What do you think about these?

  • the character could walk slightly faster - the movement feels a bit sluggish right now
  • whenever the monster gets to you, there could something of an "escape mechanism" - you get 1 or 2 chances in the whole game to escape it so the game doesn't end right away
  • maybe a map could help? just like in metroidvania games, you could discover the map bit by bit
  • the books could be a bit more spread around the map - currently there are a few books in one room, but spreading them would encourage exploration
  • some smaller enemies could appear on the map - in some rooms there could be some more smaller monsters which you could easily escape, but you'd have to walk around them

Hope this helps!

Quite an alright game. The controls are a little bit wonky though. I liked how random stuff happened on the intersections.

That's a really fun mechanic, I'd like to see some more of that! It can get a little bit buggy and it's hard to control, but the gist of it is alright! Artwork and audio could use a bit of makeover as well, but with a solid gameplay mechanic the world is your oyster!

Artwork is nice, gotta admit! Maybe it's just my browser, but all I saw for the player sprite was a black rectangle. The game could use some audio and a bit of polish for controls. It was also quite hard to see next platforms some times as they were out of the screen and I had to take a blind leap a few times. Overall, art direction here is nice and I'd love to see some more from this game in terms of gameplay and audio - there's always a room on the market for a solid platformer with great art style.

Great theme, great music, and great artwork! Gameplay could use a little polish though. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the game! I'm a little bit worried and sad about Phillip, but I guess that's the whole point of the game 😅

Art style is very nice, I like it! The game could use some more polish though, e.g. I could easily exit the map and only the rays could hit me there. The music loop is quite alright as well, but it gets repetitive quite soon. Survivors-like is quite hard to pull off, especially during a game jam, but I'm very happy to see that you made it! With a bit of improvements this could become a great game!

I broke the loop, thanks! Text-based game is a rarity these days.  It's also a nice touch you added a possibility to comically end your own existence in every location. I could not talk to the gnome, but I could slap him in the face. This could be an even better text adventure after adding more plot and some improvements. Maybe an inventory on the side or in a form of another command?

Sometimes I didn't understand what was happening, but I believe that's what life is all about. Good job!

Sometimes it is so fast at the beginning that it is impossible to avoid all obstacles in front of you, but overall, really enjoyable! Good job guys! :)

Cool idea, very intuitive. Good job!

I really liked it and I'm not sure if it's good :D

I died so many times, but it was fun! Really unique idea, I really like this game!

AWESOME! I was sometimes stuck between a block and a wall, unable to do anything, but it was fun! One of the best games I've played so far. Excellent job!

With some more levels this could become a next mobile game hit! Great idea for implementing the theme into your game.

That's a solid idea for a game, well done! Music & sounds are very well-fitting as well. The gameplay might become a bit chaotic with time, but it's still quite fun. Would like to see some more of new weapons and maybe some items in addition to them.

Not only does your ship travel in a loop around the world, but the whole attack flow goes in a loop as well! Neat idea, some great pixel art, and great execution! This could become a nice, bigger game with some plot and more mechanics. Thoroughly enjoyed playing that!

Great creative direction you took with the game, hope to see this idea extended! Spooky atmosphere is great, the glitchy visuals & audio as well. Maybe the game could use a bit more gameplay mechanics? Currently it's pretty much just walking on corridors not getting caught by that monster and collecting potions, which reminded me a bit of Atari 2600 games like E.T. Overall, I liked the vibe of the game and would love to see some more of that!

Nice experiment with the timed dialog options. And a nice first jam game! What you could do to make it even better are some more options or alternative ways to interact with people. And more people could be nice, so the plot could be even thicker.

Thank you! :)

I've seen many games with this mechanic, but this one really stands out for its atmosphere! Good job!

One of the more interesting platformers out there. Using the game jam theme in this way is truly unique. I really enjoyed playing this game!

I love puzzle games, and this is one of those that sometimes requires a bit of thought. Moth to the light is a very unique choice, with very enjoyable gameplay!

The game is truly enjoyable, and the vibe it exudes is unique! It's a bit confusing that obstacles and bananas randomly generate in new positions whenever you dodge, and existing ones change positions, but it's a game jam. There's huge potential!
