I’m setting up my seller account on Itch.io and I’ve encountered an issue during the tax interview. I’m an Individual / Sole Proprietor outside the U.S.

When I answer “Yes” to the question about having a Tax Identification Number (TIN), the form forces me to select a U.S. identifier (SSN or EIN). Obviously, that doesn’t apply to me.

I tried entering my foreign TIN (the tax ID I use in my country), but the form doesn’t accept it and won’t let me continue.

According to the instructions, having a TIN is not required to establish that you are not a U.S. person for tax purposes. However, if you want to claim tax treaty benefits with the U.S. to reduce the standard 30% withholding rate, you must provide a valid TIN (either foreign or U.S.). Until that number is provided, the system will automatically apply the full 30% withholding.

Has anyone outside the U.S. successfully managed to enter their Foreign TIN in this form?

  • Did you just enter your local tax ID as it appears in your country?

  • Or did you need to contact support and provide additional documentation?

Any guidance or shared experience would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!
