**About the speed level** - I know it's tough 😅 I added it 24h before the deadline and didn't have time to balance it properly. I'm planning to reduce the number of coins in the next update.

**The blue/red wall bug** - Yes, it's a known issue with the doors. I'm going to fix all of these after the jam ends.

**UI elements** - That's a great idea! I'll add a progress bar or something to show how far the player is from the exit.

**Art style** - Thanks for the note about line consistency. I'll make sure to polish that. And you're right about music too – I want to add a simple background track.

I am really sorry about it the game had a lot of bugs and most of them are with the doors i think this happened because of the signals they got really messy

After the jam ends I will add some new levels 

Make some levels a lot easier like the speed level

And fix all the bugs

You can then play the full games without any bugs and you will enjoy it

Actually it's a puzzele what I expected in that level you will see lava and water and you will say beacuse the world Is upside down I will go through the lava but its the opposite the water is save 

You have only to take the single coin behinde the water and complete another levels to meet the grandfather 😅

Thanks! I actually made the same mistake in my first game "Grandpa's Portal". I added a speed level that was way too fast right before the deadline, and now many players are struggling with it 😅 It's a lesson for both of us!

Your game is really creative though, and I agree that challenging levels can be fun when balanced right.

You're absolutely right about the fast level - it's the most problematic. I did mention the skip button and 2-button combo in another comment, but I realize it's not obvious at all. I'll make sure to add clear instructions in the next update.

The door issue and visual artifacts are bugs I need to fix - thanks for pointing them out! This was my first game and I rushed at the deadline, but I plan to improve everything after the jam.

I'd really appreciate if you tried the fast level again. I' am sure I added a skip button but It seems there is a problem in the game 

Also in the fast level maybe there is 30 coin you only have to collect 25 to pass the door

You're absolutely right about the fast movement level - it's really difficult actually😅 but there actually one thing that I didn't mentioned for example if there is 30 coin in speed level I actually wrote in the code if the player collected only 25 he will pass normally but I forget to mention this 

Also before the deadline I added a button called skip for people who didn't like that level to skip directly for the next level

Iam really sorry about this level most of people who played the game told me that they got stuck but there is way by pressing 2buttons in the same time and time it perfectly you will not get stuck

Also, great point about the sound effects! I plan to add grandpa's voice and background music in the next update. This was my first game and I rushed a bit at the deadline 😅

Yes the dialogue had a problem especially the dialogue with grandfather  it was my first game so it had some bugs

I worked on the game and the project get deleted 3 times therfore there is some bugs

🎮 Grandpa's Portal - My First Game Jam Journey

6 days. 3 rebuilds. 18 levels. 1 dream.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share the story behind "Grandpa's Portal", my first-ever game jam submission for the GoedWare Game Jam (theme: Upside Down).

💡 The Idea

A grandson enters a mysterious portal to save his grandfather. But as he collects coins, something strange happens: his controls flip (right becomes left, up becomes down). The game is a top-down puzzle with 18 levels exploring different mechanics (flip control, friction, rotating rooms, fake coins, and more).

🔥 The Struggle

This game was deleted 3 times during development due to power outages while transferring files. I rebuilt it from scratch every single time. I also faced:

· Linux export nightmares (Puppy Linux + Godot 3.5)

· Export templates failing at 30%

· "Failed to fetch" errors in the browser

· A Quit button that never worked (I told players to use ALT+F4 😂)

✨ The Magic

Despite everything, there were moments I'll never forget:

· Writing my first line of code and seeing the coin flip the player's controls

· The rush when the portal actually worked

· Getting my first positive comment: "você disse que nunca participou de uma jam antes, para primeira jam é um otimo jogo!!"

🎭 The Plot Twist (That Came to Me at 3 AM)

What if the player IS the grandfather? What if you're not searching for him – you're searching for yourself? And the child you meet at the end... is your grandson? This simple twist turned the whole game into something deeper.

I really like this game and how you applied the theme with the spider 

it had a very nice puzzles but actually the game felt like easy because of the green places which make the player know where to flip

this is a very nice and creative idea,  I really liked how you applied the theme however I think it might be a bit challenging for players who are not familiar with chess rules
