I would try picking a book and then mashing it for awhile that should work!

Oh I wouldn't do the book puzzle at that point, it should only be the push button. The secret ending is somewhere before then.
Mmm it shouldn't restart at all, I would recommend picking a book that has the same color as the flash of light and committing to it ;)
