Hello, jam admins,
I'm specifically competing for the categories of Best Innovation or Best Audio, but it seems like all categories to compete for are required when filling out game information. I'd rather not enter for best pixel art since I'm using assets from opengameart.org

I made a nostalgic 8-bit-style game for my 5 year-old niece as a gift for the holiday. It can be played here: https://lazynerdcomp.itch.io/check-on-stella
While on an adventure, Buzzy the Cricket finds an injured spider named Stella. Stella loves watermelons and hotdogs. Buzzy nurses her back to health, and the two become best friends.
One morning, Buzzy wakes up to find Stella is missing. He checks on her in his cricket village and his friends don’t know where she is. Buzzy is scared, but he makes a big decision. He’ll collect hotdogs and melons for Stella so she won’t starve. He’ll make sure he eats broccoli often to stay healthy. And he’ll travel through meadows, lakes, mountains, forests, and even winding caves to check on Stella, wherever she may be.
Features:
- simple run and jump controls and game mechanics
- challenging platform action where foes are rats, goblin bugs, and mutated fish
- graphics by surt over at opengameart.org
- music by shiru8bit
