I make a game, and I kept drowning in unsorted material — references, textures, captures, SFX. Explorer gives me a grid of identical thumbnails sorted by name. Reference board apps want me to import everything into them first. So I built the thing I actually wanted.
Canfolds is a dual-pane file manager where each folder opens as a canvas. You arrange files by meaning — scale, rotation, comment frames, markdown notes — and the layout saves into a hidden file inside that same folder. Nothing gets imported. Move the folder and the board moves with it. Delete that file and it's a plain folder again, exactly as it was.
The part that surprised me most in daily use is that everything previews and plays in place: video scrubs on the card, audio gets a real waveform, and 3D models render a preview with no 3D package installed at all.
Free, portable, single exe, Windows 10/11. It came out of making my game and turned out useful enough on its own to just give away.
It's beta — I'd genuinely like to hear what breaks.
