Looking forward to the new update, in the meantime thank you for the fix (I never had that problem luckily)

Good day CC2D Devs,

I was wondering how hard it would be for you to make a spine compatible export for Esoteric Spine JSON files?
It would be pretty awesome if you could make that happen, but I can understand if you can't.  Seeing as it supports JSON export already, it might be possible?  Preferably version 3.7.XX as this is the only version that works with game maker at the moment.

Hi Mochakingup,

From what I can see we're only missing two shapes.  We're missing is the F,V shape for works like (F)IRE and (V)ICTOR (Like bitting on your bottom lip) and the L shape for words like (L)IQUID or (L)ANTERN (Tongue on the roof of the mouth behind the front teeth).  If you could add those into the emotions that would be awesome.

(1 edit)

I know the F,V shape is missing, I'm not home to check them all but when I get home I can let you know.  I figured there would be some already in there but I know for sure some are missing.  I will let you know.

Good to know it's coming!  Just include zombies and skeletons please LOL!

I agree this is why the link I provided shows the mouth shapes required for standard lip sync animation.

Hi Devs,

What about a zombie pack?  Who doesn't like to have a zombie appearance in their game?  Just throwing some ideas at ya, but come on, it's ZOMBIES!  Skeletons would be a nice feature of the zombies pack as well.

Hi CC2D Devs and Community,

Here's another pack request / idea that will allow much more versatility for the characters face.
As it stands at the moment, there's not many options available (12 eye set (only 8 usable for humans), 3 ears (only 1 human ear), 10 mouths (shared between male and female), 8 noses).  Even some more eyebrows (There's 15 options so this one isn't too bad) would be a welcoming addition.  I noticed that even after buying all of the DLCs the quantity stayed the same and offered no addition options (I would have thought the oriental pack would have had oriental eyes, si-fi would have robot eyes etc.).  So with that being said, I would like to see more options for the face.

Thanks for listening,
Kombowz

Bare hands without gloves on would be good.  If you think about it, those will be the most versatile with ANY outfit anyway =).
The mouthshapes would be awesome, I have lip sync setup for a few characters without mouths ready to go LOL.

If I come up with any other ideas for packs I will let you know.
Thanks for all of your help, I appreciate it.

I found something called alfred spritesheet cutter, but this tool looks great.  I will give it a try once we have spritesheet export.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi Mochakingup,

I have a content pack request (Maybe for the next one?). I would like to see two things in this content pack:
1. Hands, a lot more hands.  Hand poses / gestures I.E. handshake, fist bump,  tight fist, point, thumbs up etc.  This would make for better emotion while using the asset.
2. Lip Sync Mouth shapes, just like these (https://github.com/DanielSWolf/rhubarb-lip-sync#user-content-mouth-shapes), this would be greatly appreciated as then we can make our awesome toons talk smack LOL.

I really hope to see this hand and lips pack come to life.  I'm ready with my card in hand to buy these.

Thank you for your time!

Oh no, that would be completely wrong.  I purchased all the assets for my game, not the tool.  The tool is just another opportunity since I'm making it for my game.  If it works out I hope people love it, just as we love Character Creator 2D.  Let's be honest, there's nothing out there like it.  I've looked for years...

(1 edit)

The character creator in my game would use all the assets I purchased of course, otherwise what would be the point to purchasing them right?  BUT the tool ( code name: character maker thing for game maker) would only have some of the characters I made in character creator 2d in it as "samples".  my tool is based off characters created in character creator 2d (final colorized exports) so in order for someone to make character assets for it, they would have to buy Character Creator 2D and if they wanted more options. Extend their library further by buying DLC for character creator 2D =).  My tool will also use spine as it's animation engine, but the assets you create with my tool to use in your project does not allow you to create bone animations for it.  for that you would have to buy a spine license.

I'm basically putting my tool behind a Character Creator 2D and Spine pay wall if they would like to extend it's functionality.

As for the plans for the next update, I'm sure it will be awesome.  I look forward to it!

Well, I'm currently working on a character creator for my game in game maker studio 2 since there are none available that use non-chib or non-pixel graphics.  Obviously using the character assets I purchased from you.  I'm making this tool in game maker for my upcoming game but figured other game maker users might want to use it. The character editor for my game will also incorporate spine 2d using spine animations.  Seeing as this is a whole system that I'm designing I'm okay to use the assets I purchased inside of my creation right?

On a side note, can we talk about the possible upcoming feature in CC2D yet?  I'm excited about it and the parts export!

You are welcome

I was trying to look up itch.io licence information on assets and things you get here.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything.  I just wanted to make sure that if I buys these (I bought all of them) I can use them in any project I'm making, apps, games etc.

I found this:
To Users, a non-exclusive, perpetual license to access the content and to use, reproduce, distribute, display and perform such content as permitted through the functionality of the Service. Users shall retain a license to this content even after the content is removed from the Service.

So I guess we can do whatever we want with them?  That's awesome!  Make more and I will buy more, LOL

Hi Time Traveller,

Easy to get working in unity
1. Download unity
2. Install Unity
3. Download CC2D.unitypackage from your library
4. Double click the package and unity will open it.
5. In Unity go to Window>Character Creator 2D>Create character

If you close the window by accident etc, just right click the play button in the top middle and it will close the run state of it and you can start it through the window menu again.

Hope this helps,

Kombowz

Based on my knowledge of this program from using it every day. You could use the unity version to create your own body parts and animations.  With that being said, I don't believe that those kinds of animations are even in the scope of the road map for this as it clearly was built for platforms and side strollers (Which is why I purchased it).  Also, all of the packs for this (DLC) are for just that as well.  Obviously I'm not part of the dev team, just wanted to share with you my experience with it.  The dev will answer though, they've been awesome with their public relation responses.

You can add your own parts and equipment etc in the unity version.  The unity version works with the free unity download.  I would suggest using that as it has more available to you that allows you to add things to it.  The truth is, this was built in unity for unity.  At first, I wanted to use the stand alone version as well but since it's built in unity for unity there's more power and incentive to use the unity version.

P.S.  I'm with you on the Chibi Chars...  *BARF* LOL

Hello Ariel,

You can create your own animations but unfortunately it's not documented as of yet, and you can only create them in the unity version (which you also get when purchased on itch).  The devs noted that they are considering putting a basic "how to" in the manual as there's been a lot of requests about this on how it's done.

Cheers,

Kombowz

That's awesome, thank you so much for listening to my reasoning.  I hope this will make your program even more successful.

Like I said, as long as every part can be separated based on what you have on the character like weapons and such is separated somehow, even on a texture atlas as you described is good enough for me.  It makes it possible to do more things with the art which is a + for everyone.

Looking forward to seeing what you are working on... =)

I'm fully invested in you and this software.  I don't think I would ever use some of these, but I want to support you, and I even threw some money at you for the "FREE" glasses (It's nice to have it sitting in my library) =):

I'm using the unity version as my main tool now so I have the ability to make parts.  If it possible to export the custom parts and characters to the stand alone version?

So now that I'm broke AF, I'm hoping that you'll be able to split the characters up into parts as we've been talking about.  The animation way I mentioned at the bottom of my last post would be easiest and ideal LOL.

Hi Mochakingup,

Fair enough,

If you can make the image atlas like you showed us above possible, it will still make something possible that isn't possible right now. I would be more than happy about that. As for the PNG export, I was thinking about this last night when I was trying to sleep too LOL.

Based on how awesome the art is (it's basically how I would draw my characters if I could, honestly), the ease of use of the tool and your amazing on the ball supportive attitude with even looking into things / fixes.  I've decided that later today I will be buying all of the art packs.  Not because I will need them all, but because It seams you care about the people trying to use your product.

Thank you so much for making this great tool and hearing the users.  You are awesome!

Thought of another way, I remember reading how to make your own animations (can't remember where I saw the instructions).  But if I (or you) made an animation that moves each individual part/weapon etc into a frame at a time, I can just export an animation sequence and that would be all that is needed to do this easily. Totally pain free!

Side note, if I make an animation in the unity version can I make it into a pack to use with my stand alone version?

OMG YES!

Most animation and game dev software for 2D has something that can handle this kind of thing.  It is definitely more of a hassle, but if we could get this until MAYBE you're able to do individual part images? I would still love you, LOL.

individual images just makes it easier, but right now I will settle for the possible =)

You get individual images export working, and I will buy every asset you have available now and in the future, LOL

If you can somehow space them out evenly like a 256x256 (per part) virtual grid or something, there's also easy spritesheet cutters that can take the pain of separating them manually also, then we can just use: https://isometric8.itch.io/sprite-sheet-slicer =)

I'm the parent of some great kids, I must have done something right.

My kids purchased CC2D for me!  Very excited about this tool!

After our discussion in the other thread, I came up with a solution:

RECAP - Getting body parts to work in other tools like spriter:

1. On EXPORT you select single image which is already there

2. Add a checkbox that makes all character parts individual images

This way, you get the benefit of your program for colorizing and making everything look great.

Which also allows us to use the epic sprite parts in something for animation that would integrate into our game engines (like spriter, spine, creature, moho, anime studio etc etc etc).

Thank you for your time,

Kombowz

Hi Cheik88,

Assets are the parts that make up the characters.

You can add new parts in unity, however the standalone version doesn't support this.

With purchase however, you do get bother versions of the program (If you buy through itch)

You can see how to add your own assets by looking at THIS: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-2myJe7zy6jmImRGheBWq7l_bqAtTnhTYiy_T9RRukM/edit#heading=h.al0it5jsgp54 link.

Cheers,

Oh, I see...  I thought it was just part of the idle animation itself.  Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

Hi Mochakingup,

There's a fully working spriter plugin / runtime for game maker.  Spriter files are json/scml allowing you to use animation and such without having to use multiple png files to make an animation sequence.   Much like how spine works for Game maker and Character creator for unity.  a one second animation at 60 frames per second means 60 images or a large sprite sheet.  whereas, if I used the body parts in spriter, the same animation would only use the body images once as it's reading an animation text file to make things move.  This is only the surface of why, you can pack and call multiple animation by doing this with the same parts with no extra PNG bloating overhead.  You can use a point function out of box for aiming etc.  Animation blending such as landing from a jump that leads into the character idling again.

There are so many reasons...  Basically, Spriter (or Spine if one can afford it) is an animation/asset packing dream for game maker.  Much like Character Creator 2D is becoming and WILL become an animation/asset packing dream for unity.  I can even use it as an in-game character creator that I can switch sprites out with others for each part. THIS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIi4m1CxdMo video may help explain it better.

I would really LOVE to use your art in spriter to game maker allowing me to finally make the game I should have made years ago.  I'm a married father of 4 boys that has had a dream of making his own game since my childhood.  Covid-19 causing me to have to quarantine is giving me an opportunity to hopefully realize that dream.

I've self taught myself programming (later in which I went to college and graduated with honors for, though I don't see myself as a strong coder even still LOL), animation, and music production.  My art skills are okay I guess, but would take me a LONG time to make a humanoid character and not get any other progress done(This is where you come in and save me LOL)...  Sure, there are other art packs available all over the internet, but it wasn't until I saw the art in CC2D that made me say to myself "These are the perfect style of art I've been looking for"

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is an issue in the app or just the web demo...

But Eyes, Base, 04 during idle animation, the blink animation looks bugged out because of the style of eyes it is, the blink looks strange.

I would recommend using the same image as the eyes for the blink as it's kind of already blinking.

Okay, fair enough.  If I purchase the program and or the other asset packs, are the body parts available to be used in other programs?  This is kind of what I was getting at.  I want to buy the program and art packs, HOPING that there are PNG body parts in a folder after installation that I can use to build characters in spriter to be used in game maker studio 2.  I understand that this program is ment / made for unity, for myself however, I'm just after the art that is within them...

Basically I love the art, and I want to buy all the art to use in something that will work in Game Maker Studio

Could you sell me the art by itself? LOL

(1 edit)

Hi there,

I was wondering if the standalone version was able to use custom assets / parts.

I'm very interested in buying this, but I need to know that I can use more parts that I create with it.

Also wanted to know if I could use the various parts in another program such as spriter.  I like the art style and would even pay for all the art separately if it were available to use in spriter or spine.

Thank you for your time.
