"Sega Game Gear... power... and no games?" Not anymore! I am incredibly excited to announce the official release of SRUNO, a completely native, built-from-scratch homebrew game for Sega's classic 8-bit handheld!
You can play the single-player modes directly in your web browser or download the ROMs for real hardware and emulators right here: https://kacperek32x.itch.io/sruno
🎮 What is SRUNO?
It is a fully optimized, color-rich 8-bit card game experience built out of pure passion for retro hardware. It features smooth, flicker-free animations, custom PSG audio tracks, and full 2-player multiplayer support.
✨ Game Modes:
- 1 Player - Classic Mode: Face off against 3 CPU opponents. Rules are fully implemented, including Wild cards shifting the stack to a "0" value of your chosen color. First to 500 points wins!
- 1 Player - Bomb Mode: High-stakes survival under a ticking timer. Draw cards until you find a match, and clear your hand before the screen-shaking explosion!
- 2 Players Link - Multiplayer: Actual working Gear-to-Gear Link Cable support! Play both Classic GG and Bomb GG modes with a friend. Features custom host/join handshakes and synchronized RNG seeds right before shuffling so your decks never desync.
⚠️ Important Notes:
- Link Cable Disclaimer: The Gear-to-Gear multiplayer mode does NOT work in the web browser version. To play with a friend, download the ROM files (separate English and Polish versions are available) and run them on real hardware via flashcart or a link-compatible emulator like Emulicious.
- Strictly Non-Profit: This is a 100% free fan project created for educational purposes. It is entirely unaffiliated with the well-known card game starting with the letter "U".
- No Physical Reselling: Selling this game on physical cartridges or forcing any form of monetization is strictly forbidden. It is free for the community. If I catch anyone scalping my work, I will personally slap those greedy hands! 😡
Check it out, leave a comment on the project page, and let me know if your AA batteries survive the challenge!
