Hey Gamers,
So I created my first game about a year ago and just published it to Itch. The game is called Abettor and it is a top down survival game where the world and its enemies spawn around you. This allows the player to explore while being in the middle of the action, creatin an exploration bullet hell game. The game is free with no monetization. The game has several interesting features which I plan to expand on in the future.
Enemy AI
Enemies can dodge bullets (within reason), which makes them constantly moving around the screen following you and avoiding your attacks. Enemies also have their own traits/upgrades (shooting speed, movement speed, radius at which it detects bullets). Enemies start out with a normal amount of these traits (3 out of 5 for each trait), which then increases or decreases based on random mutation. Ideally I plan to work on this more in the future to make the enemies evolve based on how the player plays the game.
Player Upgrades & Score
The goal of the game is to kill as many enemies as possible. Every 50 kills opens the upgrade screen which allows the player to choose an upgrade. For now there are only two upgrades which I plan on greatly expanding on in the future
Topography
The game has hills and topography which means that the bullets hitting a higher topography break and bullets go over anyone on a lower topography. So the only for a bullet to deal damage is if it hits the same topography.
