You might have some errors... You need to download the game from STEAMRIP (Not promoting! Trying to help.) And search "People Playground" (enter) Now download the game, after downloaded, Extract the game into a folder. (recommended) Don't play the game. (when extracted, there is a folder that is not the game but some executables for you to run the game.) The folder starts with R.
When you install all the stuff from that folder, D e l e t e the game folder or the folder you extracted the .zip with. Make sure you didn't delete this (itch.io) one! Now try opening, it should finally open the game!
Note: I know you finally opened the game without this tip. So next time this happens again to you, try this! (AGAIN, I DO NOT PROMOTE.)
In the game's root dr, you can see a folder called "Contraptions", this will be hard for you since it's all ids, you can see inside the files (the names with id) and check some files inside to see if one of them is the freaky saves.
