Yup, it takes time to learn, and I wish you luck in the future game development!! :D

As for "brute forcing the game", I mean that I've tried to get to the goal by just completely ignoring the main mechanic of the game and not stopping when the game tells me to, but I couldn't win the game that way :)

Platformer but musical chairs! Quite an interesting idea. I do appreciate the fact that you went solo for this project! Obviously the game is undercooked, which especially shows in the main menu. However I see you've followed quite a few tutorials, so if this is your first game (or one of the first games), it actually is pretty good for a first game! I like the fact that the punishment criterion is not strict - you have a bit of leeway between when the STOP sign appears and when you actually get teleported back to start and (sometimes - this might be a bug or a mechanic I don't understand) lose a life. Another thing is that the music seems to fade away after a short while, which means that the game is silent even when the music is supposed to be playing. You probably need to make the music actually loop after all :) I also like that you can't brute force the game!

I've noticed more things to consider fixing or improving, like for example how you can infinitely grind points by just waiting. However, I don't want to give you much burden, without me writing ten paragraphs on how the game could be done better. Take your time to learn, experiment and improve! That's the most important thing right now, and I wish you good luck on the hard way of becoming a game developer, if that's the thing you want to be doing! With practice comes perfect! :D

We've been working on it for full 8 days! In fact the project was quite a bit undercooked by the original deadline, so I was really happy to see the one day extension announcement! If you want to, I can give you the git log, early builds/screenshots or anything to prove that we did in fact not start this project earlier! :D

Thank you so much for your positive feedback!! Really appreciate it!! :D

As for the making process, there were a few handicaps I've had. I've played a lot of Rhythm Heaven last year so I understand rhythm games and how they work pretty well. In fact this was one of the inspirations behind the gameplay! And I've been self-studying a lot on the topic of how the games work and what I feel is necessary, hence some particle effects because they really give a lot of life to the game!! I still wish the menu screens had transitions, because that would also make the game much more alive. I also wanted to put this knowledge to use for your submissions, and that's why my comments on the other submissions are so detailed! I hope I can help other people make great games too!! :D

And, most importantly, scope creep is your enemy. Keep your ideas at bay, you will have plenty of time to extend them after the jam if the minimal viable product is good enough!

Thank you so much!! :D Mouse input sounds like a good idea, especially since you mentioned Geometry Dash :) There is a level editor in the works, so it will eventually come into the game!!

Thank you so much for the positive feedback!! :D

I've Googled the doodle of the Olympics cat, and it does look like a very nice and surprisingly big game that I should play at some point! :D

Rebinding the A key was one of the ideas we had but we run out of time for. I was considering a spacebar, but a spacebar is a big button and it feels somewhat flaky to press (at least on my keyboard :D) so I've just stuck with A. I'm left handed so that checks out!

And obviously, THANK YOU SO MUCH and I really appreciate the fact you love this game!! (I almost bursted into tears when I was reading it!) I will make sure to update it with the cut content (due to time constraints) as well as bugfixes and new levels! :D

No worries!! :D

I really appreciate the fact that you love the game!! Thank you so much!! :D We will be updating it!

As for the active box space, there's a black rectangle inside to make it a bit more clearer on the white parts of the background. If you have any idea how to make it even more legible, let me know!!

I like the game! As other people previously have said, the levels tend to have a lot going on at once and at a fast pace which actually makes me grateful that I could just spam the keys because otherwise I wouldn't be able to see the entire game. Another glitch worth looking into is the fact that the held inputs don't require you to hold at all. Letting the key go too quickly should also deal you some more damage.

I'd love sound volume controls because the music was blasting my speakers off and I couldn't tone it down easily because I was in a Discord call and I wanted to hear what other people are saying. It is a pretty niche use case, so it's fine.

I like the art style and the hero character I've immediately recognized! Glad that it has been put to good use this time!! :D Very nice techno music too, really fits the game name.

I love the fact that everything was explained thoroughly! Even the cutscene made sure that you knew what you were doing in the second stage where you had to fight off the enemies.

The story is wacky but I like wacky stories, and I enjoyed this one!

I'd love if the keys in the 1st and 3rd stage were looking like pressed while they were pressed on your keyboard.

I am looking forward to seeing a patched version and maybe an extension, although the story seems like it wraps up here? Great job!!

I launch the game and am amazed by how well it looks!! The music sounds nice, the menu looks very good, a great team, so I press play. Okay, captions start! Great! There's a tutorial! Movement, kill the viruses, okay. The gameplay will start for real soon. And... that's it? Am I missing something?

>my true reaction playing the game for the first time

I love the sounds!! I LOVE the graphics design! The game looks amazing! The game sounds amazing! BUT! The whole game seems to be just a minute of gameplay and there's not much rhythm to it. The viruses do indeed spawn in rhythm and in patterns, but I can just click them not even caring about precise clicking to the rhythm that much. I'd love if you had to kill the viruses with precise timing too!!

This is an AMAZING base for a game!! Please tell me you all will continue making this game!! I will absolutely love to play more of it!!

I love the idea of killing monsters with rhythm!

Unfortunately the attacks and moves are a little hard to pull off because I'm either doing it wrong or the inputs get rejected even though I'm nearly sure I'm pressing the keys when the white border appears (or just beforehand, maybe that throws it off?). I'd love if the leniency window was wider here and maybe even make three tiers (good input = symbol added, okay-ish input = input rejected BUT the symbols you've already put in don't vanish, complete miss = all symbols are gone like right now when you miss). It probably doesn't help that I don't really feel the synchronization of the input windows and the music, but that might be just me. Overall it felt a bit frustrating and I didn't get too far in this game :(

I'd love if the game told you straight that you need to check the pause menu to see which combinations you can do.

Another gameplay idea I'd love to see is the shield blocking your attacks completely. Currently they only seem to reduce the amount of damage, so you still might be killed even if you summon the shield as a last resort?

I like how the game looks overall, though! Love the symbols and the zombie sprite looks really polished!

Thank you for fixing the HUD rendered behind trees by the way!

The LMB restarting the level is a bug I didn't manage to fix but it will definitely be fixed in the future! Thank you for your kind words :)

One thing you could do regarding the tutorial is just to wait a short amount of time before allowing the player to proceed to avoid accidental clicks :)

Amazing game! Hands down this should be the jam winner! I just have no words to describe how good this game is. This is indeed a demo for a full game and I'd love to see the post-jam progress! Instead of thirty paragraphs worth of praise (which your team certainly deserves) I will instead throw a few friendly nitpicks I found while playing (which will not change the rating!).

I feel like the player should be able to close the messages by clicking on them, instead of having to reach the keyboard to press space. Iirc this is the only thing which needed a keyboard button. Other than that everything could be controlled via mouse.

The player should be unable to start a wave when no towers are on the ground. I did that mistake once because I thought I could buy towers mid-wave, lol. Also speaking of waves, I'd love to see a final wave indicator! I didn't know which wave was going to be last so I wasn't sure if I should keep some funds around for further towers or I can spend everything now. Also, I'd love to be able to speed up the time!

Other than that, again, I bow down to your team for this amazing game! Can't wait to see what you can come up with in the future!

Very simple but solid game! I'm not sure what was happening when starting a level, because I was falling off the map until I restarted a few times, then it worked fine! The last level looked deceptively easy, then deceptively hard, and finally it has turned out to be quite easy! I also love the state change sound and the fact that the music changes sligtly between states! Nice job! :D

Thank you! We already know about the issue, and we will make sure to improve on the levels in the subsequent updates :)

Thank you so much for your feedback! :D This is my first platformer I've ever coded, but we will be working on fixing the issues you posed! :)

On the second floor, you need to jump on the table and then onto the box. The pink cloud girl and the sharks are intentionally invincible, you have to avoid them. I'm sorry if that was not obvious! :D

Thank you for the kind words on the animations! We were working hard to implement them :D

The artist has justified the theme by saying that the levels transition "from relaxed picnic to suddenly action" and "from fighting normal material to suddenly fighting elemental enemies", but it kind of got lost in the end. We hope our entry will be still valid but personally I would not be surprised if it is going to be disqualified because of it not following the theme.

The platform placements will be improved in the future :)

Thank you for your kind words! Really appreciate it! :D

Thank you so much! :D We will rebalance the hitboxes in a future update.

Yep, we overscoped a bit too much. Still proud of what we've managed to put together despite a lot of things being incomplete!

And I am aware of the collision problem. Sometimes the player suddenly warps when you jump on a partially solid platform (I actually don't know what the professional term for that is!). I wasn't able to fix this problem in time, but it will be eventually fixed. It is definitely annoying.

Enemy oversaturation is a side effect of the game having a lot of enemy types but only two levels. We will rebalance the game as more levels are added.

We will see what can we do with the collision boxes! It was kind of a hit or miss with where they should be placed having only the level background as a reference, but I want to improve the game in that regard too.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Really appreciate it!

Yeah sorry, by the way I don't really want to add easier difficulties during the voting period, as that would substantially change the game and would be against the jam rules imo :)

Ayyy thank you so much! Yeah I know I've definitely made this game way too hard, and while I will keep them like that in the hardest difficulty for hardcore players, I will make easier difficulties when the game gets into a post-jam development phase :D

(1 edit)

Thank you so much! :D Have you had any trouble beating a level?

Thank you so much! Yeah the game is quite hard, perhaps even too hard for a jam like this, I'll definitely be adding difficulties later on after the jam ends. Level 2 (and a few other levels) are indeed too reliant on shuffles, my bad :P

Thank you so much, glad you've enjoyed it! :D

Thank you! Some time limits might indeed be too strict (like level 4 as you mentioned, level 6 is also hard), I will surely look into it in the future!

Thank you so much! :D
